I’ve got one of these. The flashlight bit is OK, and I guess I should really write something about it, but the laser (my first) scares me to death! Now, I’m not normally that cautious a person - li-ions I respect, I buy quality (panasonic) and don’t worry about burning down the house. OK, I don’t pass on lights with li-ions to friends, but that’s just part of the respect.
The trouble with a laser - and the green one on the Knight is rated at 20mW, IIRC - is that could harm me, or my dogs, when I play with it. When it arrived and it got dark, I took it into the garden, and was very careful with it. Then I pointed it at my shed, with windows, and saw the laser beam reflect just past my head. I was a little surprised, to tell the truth. The dogs were in the garden at the time, and I was worried about hitting them.
Then my wife pointed out a story in the local paper - a guy who lives pretty close was jailed for 6 months for pointing it at a plane (and at the police helicopter sent to trace him). Fair enough - he’s an idiot - but I can’t think of any reason to have one, other than to show off, but it just worries me too much, so I’ve taken out the batteries, and put it in a drawer.
I’ll try to get some beam shots at the weekend. White walling is a bit odd - the two emitters kinda overlap, and the bezel also messes the beam up, but outside its pretty good. Wonder how to take a photo of the laser - expect I’ll find out. If it’s dry I’ll take it to open fields, so no reflections
It’s an odd UI - when I first got it I switched on the laser, and couldn’t switch the damn thing off. Well, not until I read the manual, but where’s the fun in that?
So, hold side switch 2 seconds, led on in High. Single click to get Low, another to get Strobe. Double click goes into laser. Another double clich switches laser off. Hold switch for 2 secs turns off led.
I can’t remember what low is, but it’s fairly bright.
My little 5mW laser can shine pretty much as far as you can see at night. The question would be how visible is it during the day. I bet you can see it indoors pretty clearly.
Hhhhmmm, interesting.
I’m wondering if this laser that’s stronger than 5mW can sneak past my local Customs Dept.
Hey Woody, was there any kind of sticker or description on the light or package that indicates a laser is enclosed ?
Oh, you can see the beam indoors clearly in daylight. Very pretty too. Edit >> 4/11 Actually I’m talking nonsense - just had another play last night - you can’t see the beam in daylight. Sorry for misleading you.
My problem is that I can’t think of a single reason to have one. I realise it’s great for stargazing (but in London you are lucky if you can see the moon on a clear night with all the light pollution). The best use I saw was for tree surgeons, to point out to colleagues which branches to cut off.
None whatsoever. In fact I thought there might be a warning about the dangers, but the only reference is in the manual, and even there the power isn’t mentioned. I can’t remember where I saw the reference to 20mW.
