What Would You Buy

Ok I’m on to my next quest for a nice flashlight. I have these in mind.

Fenix TK75
Olight SR90(If I can find one cheap enough)
2 More K40’s(1 I’ll probably give to my son)
BTU Shocker(haven’t ruled it out but waiting on a review first)
ThruNite TN31 special on here
Fire Foxes FF3

I already have a L3 Illumination K40 from sbflashlights. And rikr and I were talking on the phone yesterday about me wanting another one and why. Like I told him, it’s my favorite flashlight right now. It’s just an awesome light. When I find a light like this, it never hurts to have another one to have. But I definately don’t have to have it. But right now the one I have is my go to light.

So with that, I’m wanting to ask you guys for some advice. I have always wanted a SR90. But about $250 tops will be about all I will pay for one. That might be doable if I can locate either a good used one or catch a good sale coming up or buy one off ebay. I have seen them go for around that.

Thanks for any help or info you care to share.

Update: I added the FF3 to the list as well. But that’s a lot of money.

The obligatory question:

What exactly are you looking for in the light? Flood and raw output or throw?

I would probably get the shocker - oh wait, I already did

Well I am wanting throw with useable spill. That’s what I want in all my lights mostly. That’s why I like the XM-L throwers. The TK75 is a nice light, but I already have the TK70. But a compact TK70 would be awesome as well.

Stock or modified from onestopthrowshop.com

TK75

Do you think Shane can get you a deal on the TK75?

Probably so.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I would rather stick with the choices I listed.

:open_mouth:

But I haven’t ruled out the ThruNite TN31 special. But I admit I am leary from all those who are complaining here about the quality issues in that thread.

Haven’t had any issues myself, it’s a great light.

That’s sound good.

How many lux does yours have if you have a light meter?

I find it hard to believe that guys are saying that the TN31 will throw with the SR90. In theory that is hard to believe when you got a lot bigger head from all my findings from the lights I have. And the SR90 is putting out about 1500 OTF lumens. The SR90 has a 100mm bezel diameter and the TN31 only has a 79mm head. I personally can’t see the TN31 even coming close.

I’m looking at both the Black Shadow Darth and the BTU Shocker. Both on either end of the triple XM-L spectrum. That BTU Shocker is your compact TK70. I just thought I’d put in the Black Shadow Darth, can never have enough pocket/cargo pocket lights.

The Shocker!

Here’s pictures showing the SR90 and the TN31 and for the money I would pick the TN31!!!

They have different emitters, that could possibly be why some people say the TN31 throws further than the SR90. I personally have not researched this though.
But also FYI, if you have an SST-90 and an XML in their own identical 100mm reflector, the XML will out-throw the SST-90 (by far).
Also, lumens ≠ lux.
I’ll explain further; Why does an XRE throw better than an XML even though it has a third of the output? Because the emitter is smaller. Same goes for XML and SST-90. Smaller emitter = better throw.

Well the SR90 definately lights up the tree better than the TN31 to my eyes. But like Rick said for the money the TN31 would be the way to go. Thanks Rick. You got me thinking.

I have been looking into the Fire Foxes 3 HID. But they are like $300 with shipping.

My personal choice would be TK75. It has throw, spill and portability - a killer combination. Plus the option for extension and additional batteries. And a brand name behind it.

That’s very true. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will mention that I have my eye on a HID spotlight that if I decide to buy it will beat any light I currently have or it should. The guy selling it has bought probably more flashlights than anybody I currently know, and here’s what he said about this light. And this coming from him I know he knows what he is saying because this guy has pretty much either bought to sell or own most of the good ones.

THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY POWERFUL SPOTLIGHT. I HAVE OTHER HIGH POWER SPOTLIGHTS, AND THIS SPOTLIGHT BEATS ALL OF THEM, ESPECIALLY ON VERY LONG DISTANCES, OF OVER 150 yards. THIS SPOTLIGHT IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL HAND HELD RECHARGEABLE SPOTLIGHT, THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN, OR EVEN EVER HEARD OF, AS FAR AS THAT GOES, UP TO DATE.

I may have to buy this one. We shall see.
