"Our lights were originally marketed exclusively to First Responders" (really? isn't that a sipik clone I see there?)

Came across this storefront on the river; they make an interesting claim:

“Bright Medic was founded by a group of veteran Firefighters and Paramedics. The products and content of Bright Medic come from real world experience. Our lights were originally marketed exclusively to First Responders —so that they would always have a super bright portable lighting solution. But then plumbers, electricians, backpackers, and homeowners started asking for our lights.”

Along with the sipik clone, their other 13 lightss only include the typical stuff available from the Chinese sellers (in addition to a hefty markup)

God Bless ‘em if they are first responders but hate to see this kind of deception.

That Sipik 68 looks like a bargain. It is only $17.95 marked down from $44.99!

There is no excuse for that. They are liars and rip off artists.

Good job posting that in such a wise way dthrckt.

Turns out they’ve got a website where they’re hawking the same stuff: gotta’ love their comparisons page: COMPARE THE COMPETITION (our Forehead Bonfire IS better than the Fenix because we’re $30 cheaper and have 27 more lumens) WHAT CRAP!

Some of us should hop on the river in a few days and contribute similarly to you ‘cept with fewer stars |(

One thing I’m wondering is if they actually have the lights in stock in the USA. It would be especially horrible if all they do when you place an order with them is subsequently place an order with a Chinese shipper. So when you order their overpriced light it still takes 3 weeks to get to you.

as much as I love the little sipik (i think i have 5) – I would NOT use it as a primary light if I were a first responder.

or a second responder.

This is done often I am sure. But using the first responder background it give a false sense of security.

This is not much better but atleast they are using a slightly modified light. Sniper Hog Lights

their so-called “bonfire pocket” is nothing more than a GRCN zoomie with a Cree Q5-WC from Taiwan, powered by 3xAAA. It was for sale at Aldi in Germany and Hofer in Austria last year, for €9,90 (£7.99, or $12.80). Despite the description, most zoomies are not waterproof (yet, they can be made waterproof, but that still wouldn’t save you from having to dismantle it partially after what our Chinese sellers advertise as “use it on a rainy day!”). This one isn’t, for sure; and to be honest, around the 10credits (insert currency of choice) pricemark, I found it to be a wee bit on the expensive side of things. Ano is good, though, on par with M@gLite. Good to lend away, if it wasn’t for the silly S-O-S mode. Still, a decent light, and suitable for modding; but the hefty 19 dollars those folks are asking are a bit steep IMHO.

… besides… even the worst Sipik clone throws farther.

@dthrckt: a little work on the pill and the switch, and the Sipik would be a vewwy good torch, indeed!

Seeing rip-off sites like these make me really glad I know better thanks to some crafty googling, and of course, this lovely forum of great folks. Smile

absolutely – I hand lapped a copper slug into the pill of one of mine, took it back out and soldered and xre-r2 to that and then arctic epoxied it into place. works great (though it wasn’t worth the time Silly )

I’m just saying it is a good excuse to spend a bit more. Not a ton, but at least a fenix, xtar, etc.

Well that depends… did you enjoy the process? If so, then you could argue it was worth your time.

But I get what you mean also.

This reminds me a lot of these sellers claiming they “designed” the lights and they’re special and certainly not made in China generics.

http://www.nightowlflashlights.com/

The worst offender that actually had people believe he was the creator of all those generic Chinese designs.

http://shop.gregmcgeeengineering.com/

It was a little more believable when he said he originated the design of the flashlights he sold when he only had a small selection and was claiming he made prototypes and they were somehow smuggled to China and copied many times over. But now he looks like just another reseller putting ridiculous markups on products.
