1000 posts : Guess the mod giveaway CLOSED Winners Announced!

Thank you all for entering and contributing to this thread. There were only 25 different members who entered this giveaway which may be the lowest turn out yet so fry me for an egg but I thought it an interesting idea and will continue to do wierd things nonetheless.

And the Winners are:

For the qtc Solitaire… ChicagoX

For the Lumatic Utilitech… Bort

And for the M&M Mini… Keltex

I used random.org for the results(including Keltex) so I guess serendipity is alive and well and occasionally visits BLF.

Please pm me shipping info so that I can get them out in the mail for you and let me know if for some reason yours should be sent without the battery. I will send them out in the oem packaging in manila bubble envelopes.

For some reason my laptop has been unable to access my photobucket account but I will continue to attempt to upload beam shots along with upcoming build threads for these lights(actual camera rather than Iphone). There was a good deal of new process that went into their modification that I would like to share.

1000 is coming up quickly and I thought I would try something different. During the process of ogling the lights of various modders and discussing different driver options there have been some different mods mentioned. Here goes, whomever guesses the mod wins it. Host, led(s), driver(if any), power source. If there are multiple correct guesses the tiebreaker will be random.org. If there are no correct guesses, winners(there’s more than one mod to guess at!) will be chosen either from close guesses or random.org if none of you actually want to read through ~1k bits of drivel to figure me out.

The giveaway is open to anyone a member as of today and will close Christmas day. That’s 12 days or ~ 80 posts a day for you newbies to read lol!

I’ll give you one hint: I’m cheap so the quad XML U3 10A Skyray King with custom milled heat sink and overnight shipping ain’t gonna happen(too much for shipping).

To enter: Just say so and make your guesses.

Random Rule : 1 post with 3 guesses per member per day
Edit Example added: coast G20 with xp-g2, 2x 7135 driver, 14500 with spacer. That’s one guess. You can make 3 guesses per post and one post per day

I just want to thank you all for a great year and hope you have a Merry Christmas! :santa:

Photobucket isn’t working on my laptop so I’ll try to do this on the iPhone pita!

Here is the 1st one

Just kidding! Here is no. 1, it’s a mag solitaire with an xpg, ledil Lisa ss optic, qtc, and 10440

And the second is a Lumatic special, a Utilitech AAA modded with an XML U2-1A, op reflector, 2x7135 hotwire(2 chips on reused stock board), 10440, and stock switch(reverse clicky).

And lastly, the M&M Mini( for Match and Johnny Mac). It is a chopped AA Mini with 3x xpg( wanted Nichias so too bad for Keltex), matching triple tir optic, a 105C driver set to low, mid, high, no blinkies, and a single 14500 with twisty on/off

The Lumatic special is comparable to the M&M Mini on medium, the qtc pill for the Soitaire isn’t set yet( second iteration, 1st was a fail) but when I stuck a screwdriver to short the battery to the case it was dayum bright. We’ll see how it goes.

No, I don’t own a lathe. The fins were cut using my drill press and a hack saw blade screwed down along it’s entire length to a block of wood. The cuts on the Mini and Solitaire were done on a radial arm saw(can you say overkill), the Mini head was bored out using the drill press a d a 3/4 hole saw(works great), and the rest was hours of work with a dremel and hand sanding.

Keltex came the closest on the Mini and would have been spot on if someone(whose name we’ll not mention here) hadn’t bought up all of the Nichia 219’s for a recent modathon. He just needed to add a driver. Obviously, some of you like reading threads by OL, Match, and JohnnyMac, to name a few of my favorites along with Gcbryan’s”what have you got on order”, and Langcjl’s “What you got today” for clues to what I’m interested in. If any of you feel stiffed, just think how I feel having to give “The Precious” items away. It looks to me like your all in the running though I’m a bit confused by Kreisler( who isn’t?).

I’ll post winners along with beam shots day after tomorrow(today is already tomorrow do I guess it’s tomorrow not the day after???)

Thank you all for participating. I have been looking forward to this for some time and enjoyed it very much. :crown:

Question Does anyone feel that Kestler78 should get the M&M outright or should it go in the draw like the others? I ask because I wrote above “winners will be chosen from close guesses or random.org and none were closer than his. Friend or foe, it matters not to me where the lights go but more a matter of doing the right thing. How does it feel from your end? I’d appreciate your input here and no, I’m not going to build a light for each and every person that got something right. :expressionless:

I just tested the Solitaire with the qtc and it works! With only mininmal pressure, you can go from just a glow to brighter than stock. The cure time on sikaflex is 5-7 days so the new owner will be the one to do full power but this is way cool to see it work. I’ll do beam shots tomorrow night and post the winners then.

I’ll try!
Minimag! 14500, ?*7135, XML u3!

L2, 18650, 10*7135 (stacked) XML U2

Minimag. 2*14500, xpg2!

rufsbduck. Your giveaway can only be one thing and that would be something to do with 7135 driver bits. I guess a driver with a 6 story high 380 chips using more power than 3 Japanese nuclear power plants.

Congrats to the 1000th post!

I'm no modder so i am out ;)

Thanks for the giveaway anyway!!

Merry Christmas, i agree ;)

Count me in: My 3 guesses.

Minimag making use of QTC in some way

Solarforce host with a copper heatsink, 3 XM-L board dd of a IMR battery

Solarforce host with a copper heatsink, 3 XM-L board powered by a IMR battery through QTC

thanks for the giveaway.

xm-l u3 on copper pill with 3+A driver
aspherical lense
10450 body

Cool. Although I’m not 100% I actually understand what I’m meant to do…. :~

My guess on the following

Host -xxxxfire
LED - XM-L
Driver - yes
Power source - li-ion

I’m in,

Maglite 2d
3+ 8x7135 drivers
3+ xm-l
2xli ion cells.

My guess is a nichia 219 triple in a shorty Mini-Mag body running off a single 14500...

It will be small
14250 based
12.5mm optic
mag soliatire size -

Nice guess but I haven’t quite worked out the kinks in my handheld cold fusion core and programming an ICBF with retro modes is beyond me.

my guess is a chopped down minimag, 14250 and a qtc pill

I’m no modder, but I’ll take a stab:

It will start from a 2xAA type light (small maglight probably) or maybe the similar coast
Modded to run on 2x14250 li
12.5mm optic
QTC pill will be in there.
I’m guessing either a nichia 219.

There’s my try!

I'm guessing you're trying to be sneaky here so i'll guess

a

coast G20 with xp-g2, 2× 7135 driver, 14500 with spacer

or a coast G20 w/ a nichia ,2x7135,14500 and a spacer

0r a

f20, xml, stock driver

tough one ... 12 more days

3 guess per day - this is a lot.

Solarforce L2 with xp-g2, 6x 7135, 18650 li-ion

Solarforce L2 with nichia, 6x 7135, 18650 li-ion

Maglite (2AA version) a nichia ,6x7135,1x 14500 + spacer

Trustfire F20 with XP-G2

Trustfire F21 with XP-G2

UF 2100 with XP-G2

Next day guess's.

Mini-mag cut down to house a 14250 with a QTC driver to power a triple XM-L board.

MT-G2 in a P60 host.

I'll PM you my shipping info.

Some good guesses so far. I might have to stash this thread for all the good ideas. Remember, there’s more than one mod so make your three guesses a day and read( the whole subterfuginous(?) point behind this idea) about modding! :davie:
