WTS Home made Triple XP-G with SolarForce L2m

Hi Folks,

I’ve never sold anything on BLF so go easy on me. I find that 4 triple P60s is more than I need so I figure I’ll try to sell one to fund a yet to be decided build.

I never posted a real build thread here but recently did an abridged thread on CPF, here’s a link . Note: that thread contains both pictures and coments from my first two builds and second two builds. They’re done the same way but my process and attention to detail was a bit better the second time around. The drop in for sale here is from my first build.

Details are:
Neutral white triple XP-G pre-mounted on 20mm star
Carlco, 10507 narrow, tight optic
KD V2 driver with 4 extra 380ma bin 7135s
Driver currently set to 3 mode, L,M,H with memory but can be easily changed if you feel like soldering
I’ve measured 0.12a low, 0.90a med and 4.4a hi with a fresh AW 18650 IMR

Heatsink is 3/4” od copper rod with a brass pill attached via AA to house the driver. 3/4” id copper is sweated around the heatsink and pill to fit the L2 head.

Host is a latest version L2m. I’ve swapped so many parts between my SF hosts I’m not sure what came from what. The switch is a forward clickie with the larger diameter boot. Other than going outside to check out the drop-in the host has seen no real use.

Some photos:

Photo below is with AW 18350 IMR, a little low on amps but it’s over 6C for the battery. It does a little better with the 18650.

The mistakes/drawbacks:
I want to make sure any potential buyer understands clearly, this is home made by someone fairly new to flashlight modding. I’ve been building/modding/repairing vehicles professionally for over 30 years but not flashlights or small electronics.
That said, I will point out what I know of my mistakes on this drop-in.
In the CPF post there is a photo of the heatsinks, one after cutting and one after filing and sanding. On this drop-in I filed to square up the pill but did not sand to the extent in the photo.
You can see in the photo above that the optic seems to be higher on one side than the other reletive to the reflector. I believe that the top surface of the reflector is not parallel to the mounting surface. You can’t see it in the light but it is not perfect.
The optic was placed on the star when the star was installed on the sink (AA still uncured). I don’t know if the optic can be removed at this point.
Last, I used AWG 24 silicone wire. Fine for bridging the LEDs on star but I used AWG 22 on the later builds from the driver to the star.

Battery is not included.

Down to the Nitty-Gritty:
I have not idea what this is worth, I’m looking for $60, CONUS only please. If shipping is reasonable (less than $10) I’ll pay.

PM if you have questions but first to post “I’ll take it” gets it (of course that’s if anyone wants it).

Sorry for the long post,

Matt

Nice build… I’m sure someone will snap it up soon.

For what it’s worth, your build thread inspired me to try something very similar. I won’t post pics, as this is supposed to be family-friendly and monstrosities are not welcome, but I can say that the next one will be much nicer. (And Rufusbduck figured that 24 awg was fine for this use here: Triple led wiring )

Redacted.

Someone buy this!

Free Bump to the top. Someone please buy this! Great item, responsive seller, and the L2M host itself is awesome!

Any guesstimate on how many lumens this puts out?

kavawava,

Thanks for updating the thread, I replied to your PM prior to checking the thread.

xed888,

I have no way other than by eye to estimate lumens and the way a triple projects light is so different than a single LED light that I wouldn’t even try to guess by comparison to my XM-L lights. Large hot spot with no spill at all.

Now that you have me thinking about it I’ll try some math since I can measure current at the tailcap. I make no claim that my logic is sound.

Using the above measurement of 4.3a (18350 IMR that may be challenged by the driver) gives just over 1.4a to each LED.
Using data from one of Match’s great LED evaluations (node 2603, sorry, I’m using a tablet which makes it hard to provide a link) I see XP-G at 1.4a yielding about 400 lumens, times 3 would be 1200 lumens.

I’m going to guess 80% efficiency OTF. If I try to find a thread that give accurate numbers for TIR OTF efficiency I’ll probably loose this post. I think 80% is close but I could be way off.

At any rate my guess is somewhere around 960 lumens. Like I said though, my logic
may be flawed in any number of ways.

Doesn’t look bad to me… if I didn’t have so many of these I’d take it. Looks professional!

Is it solid copper rod drilled for the wiring?

Rich

Yes, the copper rod is solid C145 tellurium copper with a hole drilled through the middle for wiring (same size as the whole in the star).

Ow. Seems good for me. How about shipping outside conUS? ZIP 404120 (RU). USPS 1st class should be lower than $10, but I prefer trackable shipment and will pay difference.

I will take it if its not sold.

Backup.

Too bad no shipping to canada. It looks nice.
