Some More HID Photos

Ok guys, I was talking to Glenn on the phone earlier today and told him I honestly think I am underscoring the beamshots on my HID flashlights especially at the 210yd photos I take and the 275yds that I sometimes post. So I am gonna experiment with some different settings than what I have typically been using which was manual exposure 1.2 sec shutter f/4 ISO 400 and let you guys see them. Now as I post these, I want to see what the camera sees as the settings change. So here goes. And I may add some more later on at different settings and with the 50watt YEZL HID as well. These are all the 85watt HID flashlight. Let’s see how these turned out.

210yds

This one is manual exposure 1.2 sec shutter f/3.2 ISO 200.

Here’s another on manual exposure with a slightly slower shutter speed of 1.4 sec f/3.5 ISO 200.

445Yds

This one is manual exposure 1.4 sec shutter f/3.5 ISO 200.

manual exposure 1.4 sec shutter f/3.5 ISO 200

275Yds to far tree at top the hill

Now I may go a notch slower yet and see what it looks like. Like I said I’m just experimenting to see the difference and then I will go from there with what I see with my eyes.

Here’s some more.

Those pictures look great!! I still get confused on all the different settings…. :~

Thanks Rick.

I know this one here is pretty deadnut to what I see in person on this photo.

I would say this one on 1.4 sec shutter is very close to what I see.

And the same goes for this 1.4 sec one.

And really those 2 sec ones aren’t too far from being very close as well. I wished my camera had about a 1.6 or 1.7 sec shutter, so I could see what those would look like.

Thats impressive!! Really impressive!!

Whats the battery life looking like on those lights so far??

I’m gonna say 40 to 50 min on high.

And thanks. And yes those are impressive. This light is the best thrower flashlight I currently have. I took it last nite down to another field where it is very dark there as well by the nite air tends to be different there vs here which is only about 2 miles from my house by the way. But that field is very long. I’m guessing 375yds or so. And I lit the tress up at the end of the field like it was nothing with this beast. I didn’t notice the crap in the air last nite there as well.

Good shots. Looks like very nice throwers. So on this class of HID, how long of warmup is it til full power?
Ive got a few questions for you if you don’t mind. My only HID experience sofar is my 35wt ryobi, stubby bigger reflector style light. It takes about 35-40sec to get to full power. That’s what always kills the fun for me. It still does pretty good with the bigger reflector helping with the moderate (for hid) power. It throws somewhere in 550-600m range, so obviously short of your more powerful HID’s. If I could find a hid light like yours with a much quicker warmup, say under 15sec?, I would like to add it to my collection. I know short arcs like the ph50 are very quick, but the $2-3K price tag makes it way out of contention. Does a reasonable price(under $200), Relatively quick warm up(under 15sec.), 600m + throwing HiD exist? If so please point me in that direction.

About 10 to 15 sec.

I bought this one from a guy that bought it off ebay I believe.

Cool. I’ll start looking at them a little more seriously now.

I honestly think about 10 sec is dang near max brightness on both of my HID’s.

Now I will tell you what I have learned about having owned the 2 HID’s I have which one is a YEZL 38/50watt and the other is the one I posted here which is a 45/65/85watt one with no brand name that I see. But both are exactly the exact same in size and were probably made from the same factory. But anyway getting back to my point. These HID lights may not be brighter up close on a wall vs the TN31, but both will easily out throw the TN31.

That light kicks @ss, Brad! Your other pics are taken at 1.4 seconds and I've never seen the barn lit up that well. Looks like you have it dialed in perfectly. ;)

Johhny,

I got the reflector as far out as it will go. The hotspot is very small like 2” at say 6 ft on a wall.

I wished one of you guys could be here in person and see this one above for yourself. It’s not too far off from reality I can tell you that. That was 2 sec shutter. But this one really impresses me. Like I said this thing is a thrower.

If they would just make these HID flshlights with about a 105mm size head which would make the reflector wider, and if they would deepen the reflector say about 1.5” deeper since this one isn’t that deep, this HID would really be a beast. I would hate to see what it would do. I told Rick I wished I could get a machine shop locally that would do this for me and I could find a reflector to fit that was wider and deeper. I would love to see the outcome. It would be nite and day difference in what your seeing here I truly believe that from my experience in all my other lights and what they tell me.

And Johnny, this 2 sec shutter photo is pretty dang close as well.

All I can tell you guys is this. Get you a good 85watt HID and dial it in perfectly and be prepared to be amazed at how far it will throw. The TN31 don’t stand a chance.

ILF, the hard part is to find one that isn't a scam. ;)
