Upgrade over the SK68?

I love my SK68. It’s just really versatile - takes everyday AA’s, it’s bright, it has a high/low setting, it can be a short 1X AA or a long running 3X AA light, and it can be both a floody or thrower light. The only thing it isn’t is durable or particularly reliable. Does anyone have a suggestion for basically sturdier version of the SK68?

I don’t understand the ” 3X AA light.” ??

He uses extension tubes to make it 3 AA.

Thanks, scaru.

Why youre saying its not durable?
I bought 4 pieces of single mode clones from TomTop shop on Ebay somewhere in march or so, I used to carry single mode one until I gave it away last month, it worked flawlessly and never failed, even in extreme usage when I used it as a tool to repair my bicycle(tool=hammering my bicycles front derailleurs screw with lights “attack” bezel, when it was misaligned near the frame), there was only a scratch on its lens and small dents in bezels crenelations, other than that, the light worked fine :D!

Oh, btw, you mention versions with multiple modes - yeah, those that I have might be little bit more delicate as far it concerns battery voltage, they might not turn on once in a while when battery is nearly empty but still gives out enough juice to power the light at a reasonable brightness, in such case you might not notice the brightness difference by the naked eye and might think that theres something wrong with the light while its simply battery being almost empty.

I’ll second veer’s comments, although I had one from BIC that arrived somewhat faulty (was a three mode version that had issues cycling modes), but that was like that when I got it. Have one that I edc in back jeans pocket for a while and holds up really well.

Where do you get the extension?

Speedsix, it is taken off of the cheap Ebay "Police" lights. If you search around there is a lot of info on this.

I bought cheapest 2xAA lights from BIC and those work just fine on all of my clones.

Hey everyone, reason I have an impression they’re not durable is because I bought my 3-mode SK68 on eBay, specifically looking for one that looked like the original Sipik built one. The Sipik one definitely feels more solid and it seems assembled better than an UltraOK clone I keep as a spare. But, a few months ago, the Sipik simply stopped working one night. A few days later, it miraculously started working again. By now I had my extension tubes and used it for a couple more months, until it dropped about 1-2 feet, and stopped working again. It does seem that it still gets warm, but no light. Maybe I was just unlucky?

Also, for those asking, I’m using this flashlight as an extension:

It’s a clone of some other light and the light itself is useless, but the tube fits the SK-68 so well it looks like it came like that.

For what its worth, I bought 2 sipik’s from manafont. These werent the clones, the body does say sipik on them. Im in the automotive repair field. My lights have been dropped, dipped, rained on, etc. They are still working and I beat the crap out of them. I use the trust fire “flame” labeled batteries. In the one year Ive had these lights and batteries, one battery decided to dump and not charge. For the price, and the amount of light from a lithium, its a power house that cant be beat. I can focus the beam and bounce it off an inspection mirror to light up an area exactly where I want. When I go camping I switch to an alkaline since I dont want a voltage cut off in the woods. But I do bring a lithium cell for fun. Not sure why anyone would want to deal with a clone when the lights are only 10$. Just my 2cents

Does anyone kniow if the c3 extention fits the sipik sk 68 ????

I just questioned myself that while reading the posting, so I ran to my never used (never worked…) Ultrafire C3 P4 and borrowed the extension tube (the back part, with external thread on one side and internal thread on the other) and the internal thread fits the Sipik SK68 tail click just perfectly, but the external thread has closer threads than the Sipik main body, so it will only screw in a couple of turns before getting stuck. Anyway I put a battery there and - surprise! - it worked! Brightness is very noticeably better. I don’t have a Lithium 14500 but I guess is about the same output as the one provided by a 3,7V battery.
It looks strange though, the extension tube is much thinner than the Sipik body.

If you have it laying around you can play with it, otherwise is not worth buying. The thread difference is a deal breaker, unfortunely…

Hope it helps!

Totally off-topic, does anybody know if there is a drop in module to mod the Ultrafire C3 P4 (single mode)? My never worked (well, it flashed for a second the first time I put in a rechargeable AA…). Anything easy, doesnt need to be the most up to date led! I am a complete noobie, have some soldering skills but never done that to a flashlite, hence the ‘drop in’ idea sounds better… Even the original P4 would help! Thanks a lot.
