Found - a Bright Single AA flashlight. At a budget price of course.

Ok,

So I am not up on Chinese AA lights. I want to find a Single AA light, made for AA, not made for AA/14500. I want it to be bright as I can find and I want a tube style, no larger head stuff, or knobbies, or Chinese things sticking out, just straight, one diameter full length.

I know there are a lot of lights out, that take 1AA/14500, but they are always dim on the AA side. They cater to 14500, but there are still some out there that cater to single AA and that's what I am looking for.

I am hoping for modes, as I want to have at least a high and a low. I don't care too much about the led, since I will change it to a Nichia 219.

So,

  • Single dedicated AA
  • Tube style body, no bigger head
  • Possibly with modes
  • The Cheaper, lower the budget, the better

Here are a few examples, of what I am looking for, but I just don't know much about them.

This one is an exception. I kind of like it, but don't like the larger head and tail cap. I do like the clip.

Suggestions?

Hey Justin, I think it would be extremely hard to beat the price of the last one. Before I clicked the links, I was going to suggest this:-

http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1498

Which I think mrsdnf built and liked. I’m hoping to build one for my little boy, he loves his dads lights, I think he’d love a light on a lanyard of his very own.

Yes, I've used two of these now and both had faulty switches. The second one was also missing the led insulator.

O-L, I have several of the last one you linked to. SBFlashlights used to sell it as one of their budget lights for $5.99 as the Yezl 501. It's an ok light with an anemic blue beam. I think it would make a good host at the price you can get it from Taobao. Only issue it has is the clip (easily removable) rubs on the body tube knurling when you unscrew the tailcap. I gave one away and the other is a bedside emergency light.

I like the first one you linked to.

I’m sure you have seen the Maratac AA?

At $30 though it’s not strictly a budget light.

Or a thrunite T10

The L3 Illuminations L10, the XP-G2 one is great but they also come with a Nichia pre-installed.

At 20 dollars it isn't the cheapest but I love mine.

+ 1 thunite T10 , i have one an and i like it very much , 3 modes and a very low low and sub 20.00 on ebay. very good choice.

Fasttech has a bright 1xAA bestseller. It cost 0.01$, now it's 1.99$.

Thanks for the replies. Something about the Maratac screams ugly to me. I don't know why. The T10 is an AAA light correct? I want to stick with AA. The L10 is a possibility. It's one of those things that I am very picky about. I never carry a light for any reason. I hate anything hanging off me. I hate having anything on my belt, except pants, or anything in my pockets except car keys. Even my wallet is thin and only holds my DL and Vetrans ID. I don't like anything bulky in my pockets or on me.

But, I know I need to carry a light for work. I am hoping I can live with a 1AA light in a holster. I don't want a clip. I will catch that sucker on something the first day and rip it right off the light, or the whole thing will drop on the ground, so I have to use a holster.

O-L, I misunderstood: I thought you were looking for a 1AA light to mod. Stay away from that horrible little Yezl! I second the motion on several of these:

L3 Illuminations L10 from SBFlashlights. I love the new 3 mode UI and the beam/tint of the XP-G2. Nichia 219 version also available for $1 more.
Thrunite T10 can be had for $25 now or wait it out on a bid or until Thrunite does another wacky low priced sale. Don't own this one but I am very impressed by every Thrunite I do have.

If you want to go a little more upscale, The Rofis ER12 is a very nice AA light. I have the SS version. Both are lookers and I like the UI and performance.

AA is becoming my favorite form factor. So many interesting lights to choose from.

Very picky! jk :stuck_out_tongue:

Let us know what you get! If you choose it, it must be good.

Oh, any plans to mod the light?

i just verify to be sure and my trunite 10 run with a( AA cell ) not a aaa .

Hey Justin…. You’re like me…. Santa has come & gone and now we can be pickey for another 364 days!!!

Dan.

T-10 - AA two mode
Ti - AAA two mode

Both impress me, I gave them to my mum for Christmas (she back packs with a conservation group) she was blown away, I also gave her two bayou claws, so either light can be clipped to keys, bag, lanyard etc. This is my prefered set up - lanyard attached to pants with claw, 18650 edc :-

Or my new toy…

Plus my srm h03 (sub 3” blade limit over here)

<a href=Photo Storage target=_blank><img src=http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x48/gords1001/IMAG0549.jpg border=0 alt=>

This set up would work just as well with an AA light, it fits my jeans, never mind my contractors (cargo style) pants and as long as I remember to re clip what I use after use, I’ll never lose them. Over here, the knife connected to a left hand pocket by a lanyard is a real good idea - no chance of quick deployment so, more difficult to say a knife in the off hand pocket attached by a line is less use as a weapon, more a valued tool.

my trunite T10 have 3 modes ( 115 lumens=1.5hrs, 9 lumens=39 hrs, 0.09 lumens=147 hrs ) with memory nimh 2500 tested and work very well with alkaline .

the L10 and T10 seem to both be candidates, but just not right now. The moths all flew out of the wallet the last time I opened it.Smile I will have to do some searching for reviews on these lights and see how they stack up.

Thanks.

Old-Lumens,

Your first link looks like the winner to me!

The problem is, that when you search Tao, there’s too many hits. Got to be millions of lights over there.

I even found replica Maglites in 2D, 2C, 2AA and 1AA. I think I will have to get one of each, to mod. Half the price of Maglite incans. Endura - E9301, E9302, E9303, E9304

not quite what you’re looking for, as it has a larger head than body, but I really like mine. Single mode though and I’d recommend swapping out the XR-E for a 219 or a NW Cree. With a 219 it has a really nice mix of flood and throw, as opposed to the 90% throw with the XR-E. I’ve had them for a couple of years with no problems. Still, after spending $10-12 on the light, then $6 or so on the 219, you might as well get that L10 and save your modding time for something else.
