PilotPTK 3 x XM-L Module : Cool White U2. 3 mode, 5-30-100% with memory, hidden beacon and strobe. Mode changes ramp up to next level. Mode change done through momentary switch. Comes with two optics, one stock and one polished smooth. I'm sure you could send the module back to PPtk to have reprogrammed.
Host : Black Maglite 2D, not perfect, a few tiny nicks and some thermal grease in a part of the knurling (probably would wash out). Mag switch converted to momentary ground switch while passing through battery voltage. Modified tailcap to accept 3 x 26500 batteries. Unscrew tailcap to completely power off the module. One-off heatsink and bezel made by the very generous PCC.
I purchased this module from PilotPTK with an extra optic for over $100. The module and bezel were a steal at only half that. I want to dwindle my lights down to the inexpensive and essential, and I wouldn't mind freeing up some cash.
I was running this with 3 x 26500 unbranded IMR (unprotected) batteries, and after leaving it on the shelf for a good month the batteries were shot (less than 1/4 volt). I got these from some random vendor, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were bad. Batteries are NOT INCLUDED. I considered transplanting this module into my 1D Mag and use 3 x 14500's with adapter, but I wanted a little more run-time.
Things that could be improved :
Redrill the holes in the heatsink for the optic. I had to file down the posts to get them to fit correctly.
O-ring for front polycarbonate lens. Maybe find a glass lens that doesn't get scratched by the optic.
$100 shipped US ONLY. If it doesn't sell I will open it up to other members.
I'm willing to part out the module, bezel + heatsink, and switch separately if I can find buyers for everything. I could always use the 2D Mag body for something.
Here are pictures I took after completing the build.
Thanks guys! Any questions, please ask.
