Haha, fantastic thread and thanks to all who took part for their efforts in this.

I was really rooting for the T50 underdog but alas, as most people predicted, the SC600 kicked it’s butt in the final round.

Credit where it’s due, that SC600 is one tough light and can probably be brought right back to fully working with a touch of Old Lumens magic.

Good show all round I say

Awesome tests. Thanks for doing this, great fun and very interesting.

OL has his work cut out for him although from what I’ve seen he’ll do a great job.

Now what was strange once again as the t50 was working since I had gotten and it in fact was not the battery. Both batteries tested at 4.04 volts but something revived it. However, after taking this picture and getting ready for the oil dunk it knocked against the ZL and went out. Never to come back on! … SC600 broke my small line about 50 to 75 ft in but T50 went about 300ft before coming off. The SC600 was off when I picked it up and would not turn again.

To make sure I understand correctly, the UF-T50 went out right before the oil dunking and the SC600 went out during the dragging?

Thank you, mkett39, for putting the icing on the cake with this final round of tests!

look at the first roll over picture there and see the big rock under the T50. wonder if that had anything to do with it bending and failing ? Great work though to all the testers its been fun watching the demise.

I’m sure Old_lumens can work them out. I can see a short piece of flexible metal conduit on the t50 giving it a flexible head or something. Make a plug for the end of the battery tube and completly remote the head and pill – maybe a headlamp……..

cool thread I really enjoyed it.

But wait — there’s more! Now we’ll see what Old-Lumens can do to bring them back to life! 0:)

In the meantime, my hat’s off to scaru and mkett39! Beer

So glad it came through unbent & ready to be reborn. :ghost: Not a premium light snob, I just find the it’s style cooler.

I think, tbf, you could confidently buy a t-50 and expect it to work. This is tbf an extreme test. Yeah, I really want an sc600, but the ultrafire did stand up to far more than most of us would put one through… Thus test mostly shows you can have a little confidence in your cheap Chinese light. Hell a tractor is what 3 tonne plus, what was on the trailer?

My heart skipped a beat or two whenever I saw the photos and descriptions of ‘torture’ designed to test the limits of these 2 candidates. I’ve also been intrigued by the form vs function and price vs quality debates. It can get even more confusing when browsing the thousands of flashlights (+ their incredible names) available and occasional wide price ranges ($10+ to $100+) on China forums. Perhaps there’s some truth about the difference it makes in material, design and quality control for flashlights? Cheers to Shadow, Scaru, mkett39 and OL for indulging us with a Mythbuster episode for these 2 fine specimens! The question is :

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” – Sydney Carton in ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ by Charles Dickens (1812-1870).

There's a difference between an ER doctor and a Pathologist. I think the T50 probably needs a Pathologist's report done.Tongue Out

Great thread. I want more. More tests, more comparisons, more lights! I don’t think it is nessecary to destroy the lights but would love to see some “relatively” extreme tests on some more lights.

I am particularly interested in shock tests and waterproof tests as these are what most lights actually have to withstand under normal extreme conditions. Boiling them is interesting but I wouldnt expect any light to work after being boiled.

I would like to see a Surefire 6P verses a Solarforce.

This was fun!

If this is ever redone, I might suggest these two face off

I’m impressed by the zebralight. The Shadow might recover some cost if he sends them a link to this thread Wink

That whirlybird sure reminds me that it’s the M*A*S*H team to the rescue next!

I have to admit I was impressed by the ZL. I have had poor luck with ZL so I don’t think much of the brand but it held up well considering the abuse.

I wonder if the truck rolling over the two lights was more chance than any real evidence that one is stronger than the other. If the lights were swapped and the ZL was placed on that rock, I could see it breaking in the same way. I see no reason it would be any stronger.

That being said both lights took amazing abuse. Clearly the ZL is more waterproof and that is more important than being able to be dragged behind a truck.

And of course not forgetting, the ZL got off rather lightly in the drag test Big Smile

Speedsix, I am 100% confident that the rock the T50 was on had everything to do with the head being bent down. The ZL would look the same had the positions been reversed. Poor planning in testing prep on that test and really not a fair test.

Mad props to both lights for surviving as well as they did. Awesome testing by the gang!

I don’t see the rock in the picture of the second roll over. Might be a rock half under the UF in the first roll over but he said both came out fine from #1.
I do think its likely the UF just had bad luck in the roll overs tho.
Also it was all mostly for fun, no?
