I'm just getting really sick of dell, I bought a laptop from the about a year ago and it is a POS, so far it has broken 6 times. In the past the motherboard, 2 hard drives, a hinge, and something else have all failed. Luckily the warranty covered them so it got fixed.
Today the screen just died. I closed it about 30 minutes ago and then opened it back up now a bunch of the pixels are dead. Now I get to waste an hour on the phone with them to get them to replace it.
God help you, their CS sucks.I've personally wasted hours messing around with them. They bore you to death by reading from their problem solving decision tree flash cards and often transfer you to someone else.Good luck Scaru,I'm gonna stop talking about Dell now so I don't go upstairs and headbutt my old one.
I've owned a few Dell Laptops over the years. They've been reliable from my experience. The last one I bought in 2006, an XPS m1210 12.1" lasted until I sold last year. On the other hand, I've had my share of problems with Apple laptops. And they're supposed to be the most trouble free of them all. Go figure..
My next desktop is coming from them (shortly). You can get EXACTLY what you want and it still carries a 3-year warranty at no extra cost. You have so many options through them. I’ll be configuring in the “Silent PC” category and going with the Fractal Design R4 case. If you want quiet, give that case a serious look. Then add Windows or various Linux distributions - your choice. This time around I’m particularly focusing on quiet as opposed to all power.
I agree. That’s all we buy. I had one monitor go out under my extended warranty, and they replaced it. Dell is pretty much what we have at work as well. Dell computers are hard to beat vs Gateway, Hewlett Packard, etc…
I'm still on the same Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW 24" monitor since 2005. Still working like a champ. If and when it fails, I'll definitely buy another Dell. They have the best warranty, 3 year advance replacement. Can't beat that..
Hey Brad, I sold a Dell Inspiron 4600 to my brotherinlaw about 6 years ago. He's still using it. I did replace the hard drive for him last year. That's the only thing that's gone wrong with it. Luckily I had an old spare HD kicking around so I was able to do a free swap for him
OLEDs are not better for PC use.
They wear out unevenly, depending on pixel use - so, for example, your taskbar will burn-in over time, and while watching movies fullscreen you’ll have permanent taskbar-alike ‘overlay’.
IPS panels are currently best for productivity, VA panels are close 2nd, being particularly good at multimedia (photos and videos).
TN are ones that I wouldn’t recommend even to my worst enemy. They’re… let’s just say, horrible.
I feel your pain, but I’m typing this on my second dell laptop. The first one lasted about 4 years until I poured the better part of a glass of sparkling wine into the keyboard. Oddly, the screen went blank, though after a long dryout, everything else worked when it was hooked up to an external monitor. Even more oddly, after a few weeks, the screen worked again. (Now all I have to do is take it apart and slosh water into the keyboard to eliminate the sticky keys…)
By then, I’d bought this one. The strangest thing was that when I reported one of the mousepad buttons sticking, they sent an actual human to my house to fix it. Who does housecalls for regular consumers these days?
I bet one thing. Dell sells more computers than anyone else in the world. Now say what you want about Dell computers, but they have earned their reputation as one of the best computer companies period. And they still have the best warranty.
But all computer companies if you have to get on the phone for service suck for the wait. You’ll be talking to somone in India.
