My First Maglite: Old-Lumens Mini-Mag with Nichia 219

My green, nichia 219, Old-Lumens mini-mag arrived tonight. What a little beauty.

I thought I would have to wait til next week for the proper spring to arrive from Justin, but, I got it operational by putting the existing spring in backwards.

This little torch rocks. I was amazed. Using one 14500 and a blank makes the light just motor right out the front. It has a large perfectly defined hot spot that you could trace with a compass.

I tested it outside, and it is brighter than my MD2 with a Malkoff M61 219 Dropin running on two CR123. To be fair it could be the 15 degree TIR optic, but this mini-mag really pushes out light for such a small host.

In the misty rain, the beam is so defined, you feel like you could sling a rope around it and slide to the ground.

And Nichia goodness….mmmmmmmm.

Okay. Sorry for rambling, but I’m really happy.

The wait for my Old-Lumens “Angel Eyes” is going to be excruciating.

Man, you’ve really made out like a bandit lately with the O-L builds. Congrats!

I had to take a week and a half off work just lying in wait.

That’s a good one!

Thank you for the praise. Those lights really do perk up with a 14500 in them.
