small tribute to the SmallSunZY-A29 (+little mod)

This little zoomie has been on the market for ages but I would like to give it some attention because it just is a nice light and it has been neglected (and because of a small mod ). It was sold out at dx, so I bought one from Manafont ($8.89 shipped), and just saw it is on sale again at dx. It is probably not as popular as the SIPIKsk68 because it does not have the robust looks and the output is less (and may not handle 14500's, I will not try..), but the beam and zoom is just the same and it is much smaller and more elegant. It is build cheap, but all works fine, I see no parts that will fail easily. Only flaw: the pill under the led board is hollow, but that should not be too much of a problem with an AA in it, at these currents. I find the light very usable indeed.

Specs: runs on AA, size 9.8mmx20mm(tail)22mm(head), XR-E Q3, does tailstand and has easy candle mode with lens part screwed off , claims 700mA current (not true, I think it is more like 500mA), 3mode (100%,guess20%,strobe)

A close-up of the led:

Oops, sorry, already modded it. Had a red XR-C (according to intl-outdoor, the die size is more like XR-E) led waiting in the drawer for a while, so I put it in. Now this formerly very usable light is utterly useless . Couldn't resist to fix the hollow pill as well, so put a copper plate under the led (the dutch 1 cent coin that went into disuse in the early nineties is pure copper and fits snuggly in most pills for 16mm leds, sanded it flat on led side, while the dutch queen is forever looking at the driver )

Beamshots at 2m from wall, and candle-mode:

The red is a bit at the orange side (more orange than the red in the MCE-color led). Up until this afternoon it had no use whatsoever, and then my two-year-old boy discovered it (I honestly did not give it to him) and he has been playing with it for two hours in a row already, scanding 'rood, rood' (red, red) all the time . (in case you are worried, I tried: when zoomed out, the led is not really that bright, you can look into it without eye-problems, he did not discover the zoom)

Dont let the kid look into the led, it will damage his vision!

I tested looking into the led for a while before he got hold of the light, it really is ok: the output is not that high and the red is less nasty to your eyes than white.

Yeah…It may harm your kid.
