I just saw a commercial for "Re-Nu It" Alkaline cell charger...good lord.

Order now and they’ll mail you 2 of these lawsuit machines for $20. The company behind this commercial/product is incredibly irresponsible for portraying people installing “recharged” 9V batteries in smoke detectors (among other things). If you even manage to “recharge” a couple alkaline batteries without blowing them up, you’re risking your whole house, not to mention your family. The cells that survive the “recharging” process probably store what, 10 mAh? HAH! If you that desperate to save money you can invest in actual rechargeable cells for about the same amount of money. This commercial insults Americans’ intelligence.

These used to be everywhere here about 8 years ago, they were rather expensive from memory.

They seem to have vanished just as quickly as they started appearing everywhere. Occasionally Ill read on forums where someone is asking about where they went and where to buy them, everyone else is replying not to bother.

Yes, it is trap. Alkalines are not build for charging and WILL LEAK sooner or later and damage your device. And THEY LEAK FAST. This facts outweights any possible savings like 1000 times.

i had an alkaline recharger about 20 years ago. It would give batteries a decent charge - and invariably the batteries would leak the first time you used them.

Buy one for people you hate.

heck, buy two

With rechargeable cells like Eneloops why bother trying to recharge a Alkaline? I mean, just buy the right thing. People are always trying to cheap out and get away with things.

I have a friend who wanted some rechargeable AAs. I told him to just order the latest Eneloops on Amazon. He chose to go to Harbor Freight and buy a set of 4 with charger for $10. They were junk and don’t hold a charge well. Now he thinks rechargeable batteries are junk.

Just can’t tell some people anything.

That sounds so familiar to me... People ask for your opinion because "you know about stuff", you tell them to go to shop A and buy product B, and then they go someplace else and buy overpriced junk. And afterwards they complain about their junk and ask you what to do, because, well, "You know about stuff"

Ive noticed recently that there are some rechargeable alkalines available where I live, claims they make are ridiculous, they claim 100-1000 charge cycles and what not:

Pure bullsh*t :D!

I know more then a few people like that, its very frustrating, and one who is the opposite, will only buy the most expensive because anything less must be junk (he would never touch BLF)

I had one of these so-called “Battery Doctors”. I tried a couple of alkalines in it. One corroded AA Maglite later and it’s in the bin!

Eneloops rule!

This post got me thinking. I can see a scam here. Well, alot of them! lol But one could be that someone has a broken product. Uses this charger to make the Duracell or other Quality battery leak. Then claim to Duracell that the battery destroyed the product. Therefor conning Duracell into paying for something that wasn’t their fault.

I am nervous charging a Ultrafire battery, much less a used dollar store alky!!

Hey! That’s absolutely CORRECT !! I’ve lost count how many times that has happened to me J) J)

Did you open the christmas present I sent you yet ?
