Well, I typically have at least 1 keychain light + 1 pocket/neck light on me. Sometimes a 3rd in a bag or jacket.
But I (like many here) have a rotation of several “EDC” type lights [knives too]. I say EDC-type meaning anything you can conveniently carry & use on a daily basis.
This is open to interpretation depending what your daily duties consist of… I am sure active military operators & law enforcement officers would have different definition of EDC than your common office worker type.
Exactly, I’m a firey, so I always have a torch clipped onto my turnout gear, as well as a torch in my normal wear pants.
As well as a torch on my helmet too. The crummy incans we carry on the trucks are…well…crummy.
Can’t believe they have you guys using halfassed incans… well actually I can… the bastards in the ivory towers can’t handle a budget to save their lives haha

The torches on the trucks (if you or anyone has heard of em) are Streamlight SL-20’s, but REALLY old ones.
When I recieved my SC52, one of my non-flashaholic laughed at it. I told him to grab a SL20 and we compared. It was a bloodbath – the SC52 is 25% of the length / body diametre of the SL20, but has at least 5 times the brightness.
Really happy with the SC52, can’t wait for the 900lm SC600 to be released…
d*mn, just tried to remove the led/driver board of my DQGIIIAAA to make a picture of the led sitting on the driver board (I removed it before, so no calamities expected) and while removing the foam insert a current regulator was ripped off the board with it (*##@!!!). Stopped there but now it won't switch to high anymore. Too tiny to solder back I'm afraid....
Result: no nice picture to show you, and no working flashlight *sigh*.
This is an expensive hobby in the end...
show us a picture :~ I just took a look a mine and with a very fine tip you should be able to solder the missing stuff back to the board.
You encouraged me to try it, but at this moment I can't get the board out of the head anymore . anyway, here's how the disaster looks:
On the left side of the board is where the part is ripped off, the part still sticking to the foam is seen bottom right next to the flashlight head. Now that I see the picture, it appears like the complete solder pads were ripped off with the part. It's beyond repair after all
Getting a bit off topic now, let's talk about happy stuff again, the 18500 DQG....
Looks like DQG AAA, Need a new driver for DQG AAA to fix it? i can send one to you for free. I have 3 pieces DQG AAA driver left. Please PM me or send an email to sales@cnqualitygoods.com BTW, DQG IV AAA SS version will come out next month, the UI will be Screw-off and loose-on. Maybe i should post this on DQG AAA thread. Ric
Happy, yesterday I received the new driver for my DQG AAA that was kindly gifted to me by Ric, with an spare foam insert going with it. It was without a led, so I had to reflow one on it. Tiny, tiny, tiny!!! And other components on the same board on both sides . Decided to clamp the driver in, put solderpaste on the board and some on the new led that was going in and heated the board from the underside onto the battery plus contact board. My 15W solder iron did not nearly give off enough heat to get through the (non-metal) driver board, so I changed to the gas-heated iron . It took a while, the whole board got steaming hot but the led flowed in place eventually, without the other components floating away:
(hey, that is not a Cree led )
And to my surprise (after all this heat) the led fired up . Assembled the light, earlier I had ruined the TIR a bit so the light has become a bit floodier now, but that is actually fairly nice for this small nearby light. I am a happy owner of a working DQGIIIAAA again, and now in 92+ CRI . Thanks Ric!

Yup. Gotta love that. I have surprised many of my buddies with my lights. The tiny form factor of this 18650 would be fun to mess with those not in the know.
Does this mean that the Cool White (CW) version is an XM-L2?

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” – Sydney Carton in ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ by Charles Dickens (1812-1870).
I would really like to order this. But if it has no memory then a light that always turn on in the mode I least want to use, is almost completely useless, or at the very least a huge annoyance.
Why is mode memory not offered on lights like this?
On a side note, as it’s a TIR optic, wouldn’t it make logical sense to offer a floody TIR with an XM-L2 and a throwy TIR with with an XP-G2? Compact pocket throwers are very cool and often very handy.
Is this right? CW comes with XM-L2 whereas the NW with XM-L? I did not notice and i ordered NW. But i prefer the efficiency of XM-L2. Can the company clarify?
Don't know what it is with neutral leds. I had the same with the Eagletac D25AclickyTi2013 in januari, cool white was XP-G2 R5, neutral XP-G R4 . It is not that the new generation neutrals were not available, I was using them already. Something with the availabilty of larger quantities of a specific tint???
So it always starts on high? Thats sad to hear.. low would be better.
Not for everyone. Having a functional memory would solve this though, as you can effectively choose the mode order and what it starts on.
Who said it started on high first? According to the description on the product page is is listed as low-mid-high and would appear (judging by that) it starts in low mode first. If not it would say "high-mid-low". Nothing is mentioned about memory but as long as it started in low I wouldn't need it.
Also, just how low is low? Do we know yet? A small EDC like this should have a moon mode low. Clarification on the emitters used is also needed. Can it be easily modded later to a NW XM-L2?
The picture on CNQG shows the titanium version. Black would look...well...black.

I personally hope for L-M-H (no memory). And since I managed to mod my DQGAAA (ok, with a little bit of help from Ric) I can mod anything .
But I would have bought this light with any UI or led: it's the best looking 18650 EDC by far! (my opinion of course)
As far as I know it is L-M-H (having read the entire thread during lunch).
My response was that some people this isn’t the preferred order. And having mode memory would solve this no matter what the mode order was.
I love my EalgeTac D25LC2, but it’s Moonlight – L – M – H.
I use H 99% of the time and L 1% of the time and other modes never.
This means almost every time I use it I have to troll through 3 modes I don’t want (often one handed). As best I still have to troll through 1extra mode.
It’s my best light – but also my worst due to the UI. And having experienced this with one light it’s enough to make me never want to buy another light with a similar UI.
The A8 BLF Edition and the Tank007 Eo9 seem to manage with mode memory, which totally alleviates this PITA of a UI and allows them to suit any need.
Ric – is there no chance of mode memory on lights like this?
So it always starts on high? Thats sad to hear.. low would be better.
It starts on Low, like other DQGs. RIc
Thats Rics answer to my above quoted question I asked because in the post before that he said "3 Mode—- High 2A ; Mid 0.5A; Lo 0.1A;"
Also, I guess the dark color we see on fancyflashlights is black. If you look at this pic from the first post:
it seems not as dark. Might be wrong tho, so maybe we should wait for Ric to post some pics with both color versions available.
I guess its moddable.. maybe a 3up Nichia board?
Also, I would like to know a little bit more about the driver. Is it simple linear/buck regulator or is there a boost circuit included, like with the DQG AA?
Exactly, I’m a firey, so I always have a torch clipped onto my turnout gear, as well as a torch in my normal wear pants.

As long as it is the smallest in its category i really don’t mind. Especially for this price!!
I know it will be at least as good as its little brothers
Like the DQG AAA and AA.
Can we have pictures of the black and titanium versions side by side?
I am not able to select my province or city, so I am not able to purchase. Pretty frustrating.
That’s normal…
I think the Paypal adress is used anyway but I wrote my adress in another field or so just for sure.
