Mini Maglite Pro LED getting warm, is this bad?

Hey guys sorry if this a dumb question I’m new to flashlight enthusiasm and just getting started with a few nice entry level lights. One of which being today I bought a Mini Maglite Pro LED 2AA. I always had a thing for maglites, I know they’re not the best anymore but I still just felt like I had to get one.

Anyways long story short the bezel and top area of the battery tube get warm, definitely not hot and even as far as warm is concerned its very mild but, this takes place in as little as 10min of use in my house with an ambient temp of 76 degrees. Is this anything to be worried about, could this be a defective unit? Again I’m sorry if this is a dumb question I’m still very much a flashlight noob, I just wanna know if I need to take this back to the store and exchange it or if I can sleep easy tonight :stuck_out_tongue:

That is perfectly normal, it happens because LEDs are not 100% efficient so some of the energy is lost as heat.

Thank you for the lightning fast response scaru, that makes perfect sense, thanks very much

Happy to help, and since I didn't know you were new: Welcome to BLF! :D

Thanks man I'm really liking this forum, I've been lurking here for about 2 months now and you guys really know your stuff!

Welcome to BLF, Lite!

It's when a reasonably bright LED light doesn't get warm or hot that you have to start worrying. A warm/hot exterior means that heat is being properly conducted from the LED to the external shell of the light where it can be dissipated.

Thanks for the the info, like I said I still have a lot to learn. And like I told scaru that does make perfect sense. Thank you :)
