Solarforce l2p vs l2t

Does anyone own both? Can you take a picture of them side by side, then side by side of just the body and just the head?

I have the l2p right now and am considering getting the l2t as it might be just a tad shorter (but I wanted to make sure it is short enough for me to justify it).

Also, for those with the l2t, does it roll alot? I might put on the l2p head since it has the antiroll.

The L2T is shorter than the L2P. The finish on the L2T is a nice flat black finish that doesn’t really match the rest of the L2P. The L2P is a slight satin finish compared to the flat finish of the L2T. The L2T does like to roll around if bumped. I own quite a few solarforce p60 lights. You should take a peek at the L2N. I think it has a better feel than all the other p60 solarforce lights. My favorite is the L2N and the L2T would be next. The L2P and L2 are last on my list.

Taking a look at the l2n too. I am really liking how the l2t looks though.

Can you post pictures of just the body, just the head and everything together standing on it’s head (for the different p60 hosts) so I can judge length?

My main motivation for another solar force is for a slightly shorter light. Even if the difference is small, it can make a big difference to me.

How much current can you run on these hosts with a xm-l2 or xp-l? I mean safely. I only got two lame drop-ins right now at 1A and 1.4A and those are already pretty bright. Have two L2P coming in and one 6x7135 and one 7x7135 driver so I don’t want to burn my leds right away.

I use both lights with xm-l and xp-l dropins and 8×7135 drivers without problems.

Improving heat sinking on P60 style drop ins

I currently own sixteen Solarforce lights. Five of them are L2Ps, and four of them are L2Ts (Most of them have been slightly modified…different heads/tailcaps, etc.); but here are some mostly stock pictures, for your perusal:

They say, “A picture says a thousand words”, so, here we go:

Left to Right:

  1. Stock L2T
  2. L2T with tactical switch replaced with recessed switch (I really like tail-standing a lot of my lights, so this was more important to me, than having a tactical switch - as long as I can easily reach the button. (Both lights have B6 stainless bezels, rather than the stock flat finish bezels - a personal preference of mine
  3. Blue L2P - completely stock
  4. Gold L2P - completely stock. Notice the crenelated, color-matched bezels of the L2Ps.

The L2T, even with its cigar ring, rolls a little too easily, for my taste. The L2P, even with the hex head, is only somewhat more resistant to rolling around, especially on a non-flat (not level) surface. If you really want this light to be significantly roll-resistant, you may want to add one of their stainless clips, which sandwiches between the body and the tail cap.

Heads only:

Bodies only:

I have L2, L2M, L2N, and L2DE18 models. If you’re interested, I ’d be happy to furnish a picture of them side-by-side, so you can compare their appearance, etc.

That L2N way in the background, on the left, is one of my personal favorites. It was also my first Solarforce light. It’s got a A001 head, a B6 stainless bezel, a stainless clip, a S11 stainless tail cap switch, and is loaded with a custom Erik Kress XM-L 7C (super warm) 5-mode drop-in. I immediately fell in love with this light, the moment I started using it. That’s what got me started with the Solarforce purchases.

I hope this helps

You know - the l2 Series is very modular. You can almost entirely interchange most of the parts (heads, tail caps, clips, etc.). So, if you like the L2T body, but the L2M head, or whatever - it’s very easy to do.

From what I’ve read, the L2 series lights have 3 amp switches on them. If you want something heavier, you may have to purchase a McClicky, or something along those lines. But for most uses, the stock switches on the newer L2 lights will work great.

Here…some flashlight porn for you fellow Solarforce junkies:

Are there any tailstanding caps that match the color/finish of the L2m?

Agreed - the only L2 (not L2 series, but L2 - with the Type II anodizing) light I own is the one with the Gunmetal Silver finish. I thought it looked cool, and wanted to own one; but the anodizing isn’t as nice, on that model. I didn’t realize it was a reverse clicky switch, either, until it arrived in the mail. I have really mixed feelings about reverse clicky lights (although it’s easy enough to change it to a forward clicky); since I really prefer a light with momentary capabilities - not possible with a reverse switch. The only up-side I see to reverse clicky switches is the ability to change modes, after the light is already turned on; but I prefer choosing the mode before I turn the light on, so…

Huh? I see 2 black L2m’s in your pictures

(I forgot to quote the question above)

Yes! Well - at least, I think so:

Frankenstein L2M body, with L2T head, S5 B6 stainless bezel, and recessed forward clicky switch. Right light, pictured with Sportac Triple XP-G2 drop-in. The one on the left has an International Outdoors XP-L U5 7A3 3-mode drop-in, with a smooth reflector.

I liked the flexibility of the 2-piece L2M body, but the look of the L2T head; so, I took a pair of L2Ms, and replaced the stock heads with L2T heads with B6 stainless bezels, and replaced the protruding tail cap switches with recessed switches (so I could actually tail stand them), and I think they match very nicely. To prevent too much rolling around of the light, I added stainless clips to both lights.

Here’s a link to Solarforce HK, for the L2T head, as pictured above:

and one for the recessed switch, as pictured above:

What do you think?

Some things I really like about the L2N hosts are the 3 finger grooves, the two opposing flat edges, and the knurling of the body, itself, giving the light a nice, grippy feel to it. But I’m torn, because I really like the cigar grip of the L2Ts, and the recessed tail cap switch.

Then, there’s the L2D, which is a physically heavier (not to mention, slightly longer) host, with the side switch. It’s the only side-switch Solarforce light I own. I hear, the newer ones have a combination side, and rear switch.

Correct. There are:
1-L2 (gunmetal silver finish)
1 L2D
2-L2Ms (in black)….ohhhh, now I think I get the question. The L2Ms didn’t come with those switches. They had protruding switches, which I don’t really like, most of the time. But they match the L2M body so well, they look like they would be stock, don’t they? :-). I’ve updated Post #10, to clarify things.
2-L2Ns 1 black, 1 grey, with black tail cap switch - I really wanted a recessed switch on that one, and I happened to have a black one on-hand)
5-L2Ps (2 black, 1 blue, 1 grey, 1 gold)
4-L2Ts (3 black, 1 stainless
1-L2 DE18 (the dual 18650 host)

Drop-ins are by Malkoff, Customlites, Sportac, International Outdoors, EDC+, and the custom Erik Kress one.

Thanks for the pictures.

Do you have one of these tailcaps? Do they match the L2m as well as the other one does?

I like the L2N with L2T Body, the left one in this picture.

Notice the difference in anodizing, the L2T on the right is one of the first batches. I recently ordered some L2T-middle-parts that came in the same nice matte black anodizing like the one on my L2M and L2N, and finally playing Solarforce-Lego makes much more fun.
Here you see the two lights shown above with three of the reasons I bought the L2T-middle-parts…

I have an L2P, L2T, two L2Ns (one has been my daily carry for almost 2 years), and an L2. I prefer the looks of the L2P, it just looks very elegant and clean to me. I like the grooves of the L2N, it fits well in the hand. I carry it on my belt using their belt clip and it’s quite strong. I ground the loop of the belt clip off with a dremel tool and smoothed it off because it would punch holes in my shirts if I accidentally bumped into something.
I recently bought a Thrunite TN12 2014 version to try out, and have found that the anodizing finish on my L2N is much stronger.
I don’t care much for the L2T geometry, but that’s my personal preference.

(I guess I sould have hit reply, rather than quote. Pilotdog68 asked this, below:

I actually do have Tailcap 1 (the S11 stainless switch). It can be seen in the last picture in my post #6, on the tail end of one of my L2N lights, with the A001 head, and the stainless clip.

I’m afraid I don’t have that S6 (all black) switch.

I’ve gone ahead and re-installed the S11 switch on one of my L2M lights. Feel free to check it out, in the pictures below; so you can judge, for yourself, how well it matches with the body:

No Foy bezel ?

Hmm, I think it looks pretty good! I was really worried that it wouldn’t match at all since the tailcaps are all HAIII and the the L2m isn’t

Thanks again for the pictures.

I don’t have one of the much sought after Foy bezels but I do have a couple of titanium cigar-grip lanyard rings and a couple of AO01 Heads with enough parts to Lego together around ten torches.
