hello BLF

Hello, just joined after reading many posts, nice forum.Originally it was supposed to be a couple of lights for the mountain bike but……I have standard lights and try modding a bit, hoping my soldering will get better. Thanks again for all the info

Thanks for stopping by, Billy X!

Welcome to the forum. What brand of lights?

Welcome :cowboy_hat_face:

Welcome, Billy.

My first proper led torch,in early 2010, was a MTE P7 2 mode from DX,followed by a TR801 Q5 1mode for the mtb, perfect. From dx I found CPF,but never joined, and from them, found Cutter aus,got an R5 and optic from them for a chinese AAA twisty(says MXDL 3W)cut down the head, put together with glass tape and epoxy and fitted a 10440 Li-Ion and it was and is literally brilliant,if not exactly esthetic. The MTE lasted a couple of months after an xml and driver swop.
Since then,a UF 502b xml,a couple of 16340 P4’s,sacredfire,cree P4,and the latest,a Trustfire TR3-T6.I’m waiting on a couple of others, fandyfire xml(2100 I think)and MXDL 16340 twisty for host.I have some qtc pills to try to make infinitely variable ramping, still at the anti twist pill holder stage, using 16mm dia nylon rod.
Today, thanks to BLF,I’ve ordered a Nitecore sens CR from Fasttech and some Nichia 219’s from Illumin Supply.Ironic,I join BLF and get my first branded torch, but it seems to be the ethos here, quality, not how much,or little ,it costs. The sens CR puts 2 amps through the R5 emitter on high, but only for 20mins,hence the nichia, all gleaned from this forum. So if it works,I can let other members know ,giving something back,I just have the joys of my first reflow solder to do first.
I hope this explains, better than a list of material, what I am,an apprentice modder/bodger with some standard torches as well

Hello, Billy and welcome to BLF! You have a lot of lights - should fit in just fine here...

G’day mate. Welcome

It sounds like you aren’t afraid of a mess. Good!

Welcome to the bright side Billy!

Welcome to BLF, Billy X!

Hi and welcome Mr X. It sounds like you have been having fun. Have you modded you TR3 ?

Hello and welcome to BLF ! ! !

Hello MRsDNF,I haven’t modded the TR because it’s way powerful enough for my riding, but I did read the resistance mods and got some resistance wire just in case, plus it should allow me to make resistors of different values(it’s 10 ohms per meter so 0.1 ohm per mm).For now I’m more interested in getting a qtc pill to work reliably so it’s lots of BLF and CPF research.
