Any HD2011 style lights with more throw?

After using my HD2011 (T6) a few night walks I can tell I wish it had less flood and more throw. It is very floody…yet I really like the body style. Is there a similar body style light with more throw? I have a XIAOZHI on the way but suspect it also will be very floody and I’m stuck with that in this cylinder type light.

I got both and the HD2011 is definitely more floody with a wider spill. The XIAOZHI has a finer OP and deeper reflector. I like both right now - got the HD2011 mod'ed with a 2.8A driver and U3 1C, getting close to 800 lumens measured. The XIAOZHI has an XM-L2 T6 3C, lower lumens but really nice tint. Should have maybe reversed the emitters, oh well...

If you get one with a XP-G that should throw a bit better.

When you say you want a similar body style are you referring to the size or the plan cylindrical look of the HD2011?

My HD2011 gets super hot after a while. I assume you are using it for a nice hand warmer right not. (For walks the HD2011 would be one of the last lights I would grab.)

If you are only going for walks I would step up to a larger flashlight. If you are running then the HD2011 is a very good choice.

The N-Lite ST50 is a high quality and well reviewed flashlight. Has an SMO reflector and will throw better.

Jake25 not so long ago was selling them with a special BLF style UI:

The trustfire t2 gives a lot of throw over an xm-l edc sized light, its an xp-g as scaru suggested. I would personally look at a c8 sized light to give a little more throw and handle the heat a bit better. There’s plenty of options with a 40mm ish reflector.

To name but a couple.

In that style of light (small cylindrical) you'd have to have a different emitter such as an XP-G, XR-E, or even XP-E in order of increasing throw/decreasing flood.

The TrustFire TR-801 equipped with an XR-E Q5 will throw farther in that exact format but will give out less overall light and an XM-L or XP-G.

Gaining more throw out of that format is tough. The only significant difference can be made by emitter choice. If you step up in head diameter a little you will gain more throw as, generally, the larger the reflector the further the throw.

Switching to a Convoy M1 or Convoy M2 will gain more throw but you lose the cylindrical body style.

Thanks guys, I figured it would be tough. That is why I am thinking of re-pilling my Brinyte BR01 which should be a C8 light. I have a thread here but need some advice since I’ve never bought a replacement drop-in before.

Aspheric lens?

Why do you need throw during night walks?
Need to see where you step 200m away?

XIAOZHI puts the light on objects up to 100m, sure not comparable in output to big reflector lights like C8, M10, HD2010. But for it’s size it’s very usable.

I’m not sure an XP-G with half the output and tighter hotspot will be brighter thrower.
Is it really possible with XP-G to overthrow an XM-L driven at the same Amps? 1.5A or what is the max for XP-G. But then, you still have some reserve with the XM-L in output when you need it you can jump to 3A. XM-L 3A vs XP-G 1.5A in terms of throw from an EDC sized light?

My t2 runs at 1.7a (used to be 2a or so) it out throws a c8 xm-l at 2.8a.

Next question please

Mouseover: Mouse Out = 3.0A KD C8 XM-L T6 OP reflector, Mouse Over = Palight C8 XP-G R5 SMO reflector modded with nanjg 1.4A driver, 100 to 150 feet to shed:

Verdict, XP-G at 1.4A beats the XM-L at 3.0A for throw. Only issue is the OP reflector is in the KD C8.

JackCY - yep, in most cases the HD2011 is great (if not overkill) on my walks. In fact I usually use a much lower powered light like a AAA or AA.

I have numerous lights  if I’m just trying to illuminate my immediate path during a walk. But some of the areas I walk are very open and sometimes I want to put a bright hotspot on something off in the distance. For example last night there was some kind of large animal about 150 yards away - my HD2011 illuminated the eyes but I could not see more than that. Then later I heard a noise by a building and did not have enough throw to light the area up as much as I wanted.

Maybe the XIAOZHI will do better once it finally arrives. Or I find a pill for my C8.

Gary - great visual aid. Thanks!

whoa, is that the t2 thats part aluminum in color and has a side switch? i did not know that lil thing can outthrow a good driven c8!
thats pretty impressive.

to the op. you should definetly get that light, it sounds exactly what your looking for, similiar in size with much more throw.
but im not sure how bright and floody that light is though.

but i can second the convoy m2, i just recieved that light last week, and i absolutely love it. i havent been this happy with any of my small light purchases more than i was with this thing. throws like a c8, with a big o hotspot, and has great flood. but is a bit bigger than your hd 2011.

i also have a ultrafire2100 modded by e1320 for sale if you wanna try that out. not sure if its any more throw than your hd2011 though.

Yep, that little xp-g really throws, its even better in a bigger reflector. This is a uf-v3 with one fitted, doesn’t show the bright spill, but gives you an idea.

Isn't that an XP-G2 in your UF-V3 Gords? What about your T2? Is that one an original XP-G? or did you upgrade it to XP-G2?

-Garry

Yep sorry, that is an xp-g2, the t2 is xp-g 4c (much nicer tint). I’ve got some xp-g2 3d’s inbound for another build, I really like these little emitters 8)
