Why do YOU EDC a light?

I’m curious why you carry a flashlight on your person at all times. Is it a necessity, convenience or just kind of a coolness dorky thing?

For me, I got in the habit of always carrying a flashlight and multitool on me due to work duties. I never knew what I was going to get into. Now I work in an office where I have no need for such things, but I still carry these tools. I feel naked without them. And I do use them occasionally, but if I hadn’t got into the habit of having them on me, I probably wouldn’t miss them much.

Both because I find it to be useful if I'm looking for something, and because it is fun to fiddle around with. ;)

Similar story here, I use lights a lot at work, having one in my pocket is convenient. At home, its usefull when I’ve knocked the lights off to get the kids in bed, an edc on low is much less painful on the eyes than flicking the room lights on, the kids seem to not get as disturbed either.

in the dark without it. Not,Laughing that I'm not lost anyways!

I have wanted to ask the same question to others who do not have a job that requires a flashlight.

I like the feeling it gives me; one of being “safe” with it. As a young boy, I thought it was about the neatest thing to read under the covers without being caught by mom and dad, via flashlight. As kids, we played “flashlight tag” (which I still don’t get the rules!) and always loved having one around.

The D batteries were expensive and didn’t last long, which was frustrating.

Because its useful. just a few mins ago i was under the xterra looking for a coolant leak.
the other day i was at my moms and she dropped a watch band pin. i was on the floor in a split second with my light on scanning the floor.

Work in a prison. Power sometimes goes off. No like scary dark prison :open_mouth:

I edc a small light (SC52) and knife (SRM T11) wherever I go just in case I need them, which is often

I find it funny that the lights go out at the Super Bowl and people ask, “Why would you carry a flashlight?” I’m also amused buy people who are in the midsts of a Blizzard with the very real potential of power outages and ask the same thing. Just goofing with ya, Electroman.

The truth is, no matter the time of day, you never know when you might need one. For instance, last summer I was on a job interview and taking a tour of a building when we entered a partially renovated section. The person I was with couldn’t figure out how to get the lights on and…. Old Cone to the rescue with his Solarforce! You’d have thought I just discovered the wheel, lol.

Knife , flashlight , mini Bic .

Always .

Because I can.

The shadow trick. I work in a lab with small parts occasionally. When the parts get away from you, it’s great to put the light down to the surface level, causing any object to cast a shadow and become instantly identified.

THAT is a great point. I do keep lights around the house, but I also have a AAA keychain light and a smartphone with a flash/flashlight built into it

Something about the dedicated light clipped inside my pocket…

To look in cabinets, or under things when you don’t have your 20-year old eyesight anymore.

To find ice patches on the driveway when you come home at midnight.

When you live in an area that has sporadic power outages, any portable lighting is handy when you’re sitting on the porcelain throne and the world suddenly turns black. :Sp

You work in a hospital, and all they have for emergency flashlights is a handful of yellow plastic 2-D cell incandescent lights that noone changes the batteries in. You hang around places like BLF and know how useful a real flashlight is in a real emergency (which is why when I’m at work I have one light on person, and two in my backpack).

Hope thats a valid reason.

Because of work, then it worked it’s way over to everyday thing. Have to have my keys and a light with me if I leave the house, and most of the time when I’m home too.

Cool song, I used to love iron maiden :davie:

Primary reason: fun toy to fiddle around with.
Secondary reason: occasionally useful to illuminate something.;

..then you took an arrow to the knee?

No no, then I had a sojourn into happy hardcore, started racing around in mk1 escorts and drinking a lot….your link just had me itching to download all the albums again….Mrs gords is not keen on blink182 and guns and roses, she’s really not going to dig iron maiden 0:) J)
