Want to replace Krypton type bulb with Led Bulb

I have a cheap flashlight/ Lantern combo that is made by Garrity. I like that it switches to a lantern. I noticed that it has a 2 cell mag light type bulb in it. I was just wondering if I could swap this out for a Led bulb to make it brighter. It runs on 4 AA batteries. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited.

thanks
Chad

here is what the bulb looks like. I will have to get some pictures of the flashlight when I get home as I do not have it with me.

yes they exist in a lot of variations from cheap to expensive. But I haven’t bought one yet because i have no light which is worth such an upgrade. But if i would see such a cheap like the walmart one i would buy it just for fun.

I put one of these:

http://www.niteize.com/product/LED-Upgrade-Kit-C-D-CELL.asp

In one of these:

http://www.usnavysealstore.com/products.asp?product=7547&utm_medium=shop...

Its worked pretty good so far. The light is not real bright but will light up a bedroom for days.

Does it matter if I get a 3 volt or a 6 volt drop in? I see they have both for the 2 cell d lights.

4 AAA is 6Volts. That is too high for the 3 volt bulb.

no if you have 4×1.5V in series than you have 6V and should buy the 6V bulb.
or
If you take your light apart and read what stands on your bulb you will see what you need

Hey, Chad…

I was trying to do the exact same thing with my Garrity in early 2012. I abandoned the idea when, for some reason, the MagLED wouldn’t sit right in it. I finally sold it.

Yes I know what you mean. I tried my Terralux insert from my mag light in it and it would not fit, but the one that actually came with the mag light originally did fit. I think the insert was just a tad bit bigger around.

Honest answer is ... there is nothing made by garity that is worth throwing money at ..certainly not 10$

Buy this for 16$ instead http://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10002364/1195011 and you will take the Garity out back and shoot it dead .

Lots of us have old plastic lights that weren't that bad .. truth is the reflector is thing that will getcha .

i have about 5 dumb lanterns that basiclly can't be modded  the beams are horrible with an led .. most of them are a lantern flashlight combo too .. Dorcy combo lantern . the worlds most   un-moddable light

  i wonder if it floats

will it blend ?

Boaz…didn’t these used to be more expensive? Maybe that was some other Convoy model I was thinking of. Looks like a great little light.

No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.

How did that work out for you… I can’t see that working well as a lantern.

Oh yeah!

Straight up drop in replacement for multi cell flange style maglite bulbs

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/b-series/

I got the 1 watt ( 7~26 VDC) in my 18vdc porter cable tool light, and a 3 watt in my 3-D cell maglights and they work AWESOME…the one I got for the dewalt at lowes got CRAZY hot and melted the retaining ring…after I put these in em…very good light, almost NO heat at all, and they run forever!

Make sure you get the right voltage

For the ‘garage sale’ 2xAA flashlights friends bring me, I’ve been happy with these from dorcydirect.com — which almost always has a 20 percent off sale going on. Straightforward dropin replacing a PR2 bulb
