Small bright alkaline light --- no more than $20-25 ?????

I know NOTHING about alkaline-battery powered lights. I have a couple small one-AAA lights, but that is the extent of my knowledge. I could spend days searching for what may or may not be the best. OR I could ask the BLF experts.

We need to gift a small, bright alkaline light for a couple people who are coming to Death Valley for a visit. Both girls. Lucky me. So the size issue leaves out the most recent HD finds. Females I have found ALWAYS gravitate to the small lights. In fact, they will take even a marginally smaller (but much dimmer) light over a slightly larger eye-burner.

So is there anything worth getting out there? More lumens the better. Multi-use C8-ish beam pattern would be the best, but there is a case for flood and/or thrower also.

Yeah, I could gift a couple sk68s, but I’m hoping for something brighter and a little nicer, but maybe there is nothing. I have a couple of the tiny Tank E09 also, but was hoping for something a little brighter.

They can of course use my whale-choking-size li-ion torch collection while visiting, but one woman the last time wanted something to take with her, but didn’t want to accept the responsibility of the li-ion route. She was actually into the li-ions, but was afraid her tykes would get hold of them with potentially bad results.

Thanks for any ideas you can give.

Romisen rc-g2 from shiningbeam.
About 140 lumens, lasts maybe an hour on one AA battery
However alkaline i’m not so sure on, with a nimh its the best simple light i have ever used.

Thrunite ti firefly
a great “peppers” light due to the 0.04 lumens on low & long run time, est 120-160 hrs.
A twist gives you massive throw due to the narrower beam than some other 1-aaa.

$17.99 from Thrunite.

This is the only place I found the 0.04 lumen version.
One user with the 3 lumens low said he wished it was less.

If you don’t need the low lumen, the Tank007 e09 is a good choice.
Manafont has em for $13.80, I saw a cheaper spot yesterday.
I will try & find.

Another aaa offering is the iTp a3 eos.
I have a couple, the q5 & r5.
Low on these is 1.8 L~ and I find it to be more than enough here in dark sky country.
Pay no attention that it is said to have more lumens, it don’t.

I like my iTp’s but the Thrunite ti has it beat.
BTW, the new Olite i3s starts out on High, a no no!

Olight I3’s are the new ITPs. Have nice colors too.

I have a few Thrunite Ti’s. Especially the XPE version original Ti’s with 3/60lm are very nice indeed. They seem to work well with Alkalines too. The throwy nature makes them look brighter than they are.

Yeah got me a little chuckle, seriously though caving & super dark loactions need very little light.

The 1.5 or 1.8L on my iT’s could be less where “I” use them.

If the tank007 e09 starts out on Med-Hi-lo, I have no need for it.
A policeman or others would, not me.

Anyone KNOW the setup on this unit?

$13.26

I got my Tank007 E09 from DinoDirect. It goes High->Medium->Low and has excellent memory:

does it know all 50 states?

Get them a Thrunite Ti - excellent choise, i have gifted about a dozen!

In fact, get the 5-pack from their store or ebay (I bought the pack about a month ago for $46, give it a try…!)
Then, they can also choose colors!

Check out my above link to see if you like the type of memory that the Tank007 E09 has.

Since it doesn’t know Hawaii, it will fail geography class

Spoiler Alert:

Flashlight memory doesn't work that way. :p

then it can’t be considered excellent, and will fail grade school, bringing shame to our family

if you say so

SO you really want an AAA light? I guess you’ll be better with a smallish AA light like Thrunite Saber 1A or cheaper T10. They are sold only in black, though.

Yep, gifted a couple for Christmas, and have tested out the one I kept on 10440. Can’t vouch for longevity on Li-Ion, but it turns low-high into high-afterburner (draws 140/960mA on 10440).

If you have any statistically-rigorous, double blind studies to confirm this assertion you will be rich.

Just got in a Olite i3s , pleasantly surprised.

It starts on Lo- 20L, Hi, then moonlight 0.5L

Comes in a nice box w/1-aaa Duracell.

For $20 shipped from a US dealer, Austin Tx I’m pleased.
It is a tiny bit brighter on Hi than the “96” Lumen iTp.

The moonlight mode will hopefully be useful for me.
My Thrunite ti has not arrived yet.
It has 2-modes, either 3 & 80 or 0.04 & 80, depending upon which you order.
I got the 3 & 80l unit.

I cannot say “get-this” as I’m not sure of the application.
