Nice, short and to the point mini review!

Any updates on the Gray version, or the Zerbralights?

My sales rep for Nitecore told me they will be shipping out the Grey SRT 7 tomorrow. I have yet to receive a ship notice from Zebralight. The only thing from our list of orders that we have received from them recently, are some 18650s Sad I believe the ZL 14500s are already on their way.

Heh, at this rate I'll see the Nitecore before the zebralight.  Hopefully ZL gets their act together.

Yes I know it’s about the tint, but I thought the XM-L2 U2 tint was better, many like EagleTac are using it on their newer lights (XM-L2 U2).

I agree, the short vid is a real blessing and covered most all of the pertinent information in a superb fashion. I cant tell you how frustrating it is to listen to someone yammer on and on about a flashlight for 10-50 minutes. Complex aircraft flight deck introductions are shorter and infinitely more interesting!

On a lighter note, thanks for covering all the important features of an innovative new flashlight. Good job!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, though I think I may have skipped some things and spoke too quickly in some areas.

ZebraLight still hasn't given me a shipping notice which means it's time to email them again about our backordered items. In case people are wondering, we DID pre-order the SC52Ws and our general coupon code will cover it. What I find exciting is that ZebraLight has listed the SC52w as having a XM-L2 Neutral White 4400k!

The Grey SRT7 will be shipping out on Monday! Since we now have both models in stock, the "SRT7" Promotion code is now active. And for obvious reasons I will not be writing the discount in plain text. If you pre-ordered before this promotion, please email calvin@illuminationsupply.com with your order number for a retroactive refund. I apologize for the extra work but it will be the easiest way for us to find your orders.

Yup! In stock and shipping. Nitecore also assures me that no one in China or Hong Kong has these lights available yet. They have NOT sold them to their local market and won't be for a period of time.

What's annoying is that the inbound SC600MKIIs are only a partial shipment. We're still missing the bulk of our SC600MKII orders. What makes us even MORE confused is that the Zebralight website says that the SC600MKIIs are in stock. If this is true, where are the rest of our SC600MKIIs? ZebraLight emailed us today and said that they would ship out another batch of our SC600MKIIs next week as well.

I received the SRT7 today, and it is in one way a A Big Letdown.

Overall it is a good flashlight, however it is also a HUGE letdown in the area where I expected it to literally shine given the LED options out there.

What's the problem?

The Color LEDs are weak.

If you are already an owner of a dedicated Green, Blue, or Red flashlights/phatlights, the output of the LEDs from this flashlight will disappoint you.

Further the police strobe is NOT a true emergency strobe.  It is NOT a fast cycle of alternating red and blue, instead it is a strobe of Red followed by Blue.  I can't speak for countries outside the US, but the police vehicles I am familiar with use a red/blue strobe that continuously alternate.  I guess for someone not familiar with this, it would still be rather impressive.

Two further criticisms;

  • The light has one main tailcap switch.  There is no magnetic ring controlled only standby mode.  It would have been great if the magnetic ring modes started off in "standby" instead of beacon mode.
  • The lowest setting is fairly bright.  It is nowhere as low as the sub 1 lumen zebralights, or armytek.

All of that said, I do think the SRT7 is a great light, and in terms of quality easily on par, and surpassing it's competitors.  I'm certainly very glad I waited for the Military Grey coating.

While I don't think this will be an EDC light, it is certainly worth adding to the collection.

Hi infinitusequitas,

I'm sorry you're disappointed in the flashlight. I tried to demonstrate all the modes and relative brightness in the video I posted earlier in this thread. I believe I stated that the lowest available output on the "infinite adjustable mode" was close to the low mode on the EA8. A quick note, I believe the standby mode is the notch after red.

Regards,
Calvin

I've been playing a lot with this light during the past hour, and there are a lot of things about it I do love, and certainly one mistake that you caught on to. (The standby mode - it's there!)

Pros;

  • A standby mode using the magnetic ring.  In my enthusiasm for the new toy I seem to have skipped over this detent repeatedly.
  • Excellent throw.  Frankly I'm kind of surprised.  it seems to be on par with my 7G6CS Crelant, which is physically a somewhat larger light, with an obviously larger reflector.
  • The finish.  While only time can tell how well it will stand the ultimate test of being in my pocket, the grey finish on the "military" version seems excellent, and feels fantastic.  I can't find a single flaw, and trust me... I've looked.
  • The threads.  I find this to be an often overlooked aspect of flashlight.  Straight out of the both, the threading is just excellent!  The threads on the tailcap are very nice triangular cut, and anodized.  Turning the tailcap, they feel silky smooth, easily on par with surefire, fenix, and other premium lights.  The threads between the battery tube and the head are even better - they are square cut.  I absolutely LOVE square cut threads as they consistently prove to be the most durable.  At this junction they are not anodized, but you can still unscrew the light there to lock it out.
  • The o-ring on the tailcap has a nice little groove devoted to it, in such a manner that it offers a good seal, but without too much pressure.  (Companies like Thrunite, and Amytek should really take note of this.)
  • The Magnetic control ring turning is very smooth, but with easy to feel detents when you switch modes.
  • The light can tailstand.  For me this is an absolute must where EDC lights are concerned.
  • Variable strobe.  My turning the light in strobe mode minutely, you can effect the rate of the strobe.  I consider it to be a nice little bonus.

Cons;

  • Weak color LEDs.  Yes they work, and yes in the dark they are bright, but given the availabilty of color LEDs out there, I was expecting the color LEDs to be quite a bit brighter.  Certainly they are not match for dedicated color LEDs.
  • Fake "police strobe".  1-1.5 seconds of red strobe followed by 1-1.5 seconds of blue strobe only vaguely resembles the effect of a police strobe, where the red & blue colors are continuously alternating.
  • Fairly high powered low mode, considering the infinitely variable nature of the light.
  • Tiny gap between bezel and head of the flashlight, less pronounced than on the EA4, and about the same as on the EA8 lights.

Overall, after having played with it, I certainly don't regret getting it, but I do still feel somewhat let down by the rather weak color LEDs.  To be fair my expectations in this regard were high.

I do think that it's an excellent light, and beats most if not all competitors currently out there.

Sorry to hear that, but I was thinking to myself too that the light is nothing more than a gimmick with those colored leds…still I was toying with buying one but thankfully do to the price being out-of-line for what I wanted to pay I sat on the sidelines.

Also worth pointing out here is that Nitecore always sends these lights to selbuilt who puts out reviews prior to most dealers getting them in-stock and I also took note they didn’t do this on this light, which also led me to beleive the light could be a floop and they knew it. So in the end I have held off on this one, still waiting to see a really detailed review, while the light looks good on paper not so sure beyond being a novelty the use of it. I did see a review on a german site and it makes me hesitake even more.

I don't think the price for this light is out of line, at least not with the discount IS offers.  Quality wise it's on par with anything else out there.  The machining is really excellent.

If you don't care about the color LEDs, you would be quite pleased with it.

As a side note, since nitecore did go the color LED route, I'm a bit surprised they didn't include a UV in the lineup.

I don’t think its surprising that the colour LEDs are low output, they are clearly 5mm ones and not high power. I would only expect around 30 lumens max from them, and in a very floody beam profile.

If you want a light with high power colour options you would have to look at a RGB MC-E based one, or I think one manufacturer made one with a reflector that rotated between different coloured XP-Es, though that was expensive (I think it might have been a microfire).

I agree that UV would’ve been a good addition.
