Energizer 15 minute charger model ch15MN2

Buddy had this charger and says it doesnt charger his battries(he has some preety old looking nimh ) .So he gave it to me :) . and yes i didnt tell him it was his battries that were the culprit (what a greedy person i am).

I have a bunch of other nimh chargers but this is my first "fast charger" What made me jump with excitment is the built in Fan inside! This fan should be included in lithium chargers as well. iv been using it with no issues.i even opened it up to take a peek inside and its built very well .charges reallyyyyy fast!!! battries do get a bit warm but the fan dosnt let it get hot. its says 1-2 AA gets charged at 8 amps!! is this safe?

I have a MAHA C9000 charger. The MAHA manual states that charging over 1C may damage the battery. That would be anything over 2amps for a Eneloop AA, or over 0.8amp for a Eneloop AAA.

C9000 manual here:

Does the fan mitigate the heat sufficiently? Don’t know. I see from the top picture that you can see all the way through this charger. Some designer planned ahead while knowing that too much heat was not good.

I would think you would want to operate this charger standing as in the second picture. That will give the best air flow. It seems to have feet on the bottom, but sitting on the feet blunts the air flow.

It’s good to hear that the charger refused to charge “old” batteries. Hopefully it has circuitry to discriminate bad cells and prevent forcing those amps into a resistant cell. My Eneloops are attracted to a magnet, indicating a steel shell. And electricity wants to take the path of least resistance. So, an old cell with internal resistance could possibly force those amps down the shell and onto the button, if not for some protective circuitry. That may be speculation.

yes the fan spins at top speed .The fan starts as soon as the battery is placed and goes off when battries are removed .even when battries are charged fan keep goin. The air circulation is a bit noisy too.kind of like a cpu fan

yes its does have little "legs" so the bottom is raised about 5mm off the ground .

Air flow is upwards .

Upwards air flow is better. Maybe even enough to run it on the feet. I think the designer did this work in the middle of the week. Not a Monday or a Friday.

And also it would take quite a bit of voltage to jump the gap from shell to button. 1.4 volts doesn’t come close.

It’s very hard on the cells as 8A is pumped through them.

I would use the charger only during emergencies because the cells’ lifespans will be reduced drastically.

true . its charges 4 AA at 1.6 amps so i guess il always make sure to place 4 at once :)

got user manual from google

From the last picture of the back panel, it states that 3-4 cells is 4.3A, so I don’t think current will be reduced to 1.6A.

You are correct. It’s 4.3A for 3-4 AA cells, and 1.6A for 3-4 AAA cells.

yikes .i will stare at it while its charging thats for sure . Fans, lights and motors or any electrical spiny things kinda excite me since child hood

I have the Lacrosse BC700 as well so will only use this beast on emergencies or when i feel like staring at its fan

maybe im just a greedy person? karma will strike me !! or maybe i saved his house from burning down so il get good karma

Nice charger. It got a fan in it.
