1.5A Charging 18650

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to charge Trustfire Protected 18650s at 1.5A. They are 2500mah from DX. (http://dx.com/p/trustfire-protected-18650-lithium-battery-2500mah-2-pack-blue-5790?rt=1&p=6&m=1&r=4&k=1&t=1&s=&u=5790).

A Trustfire TR-001 will be used tho charge those and I just want to make sure it will not damage the charger/batteries.

Thanks in Advance

1.5A might be a tad bit high for TF cells, especially the blue ones. (They probably are well under 2500mAh.)

The lower the better, but 1.5A shouldn’t cause serious problems.

I usually charge my 18650’s at 0.5A.

Yeh I don’t really care about the amount of cycles but I don’t want them lighting up in smoke xD

Yep, you should be fine. As long as these are decent cells (as in not a shitty little lipo in them) you will be fine. I would still recommend a slower charge rate though.

Trustfire TR-001 does only output 0.5A or have you modified yours?

More like 0.2A, that was what I measured when I did the review.

Not all 18650 is designed for 1.5A charge, but I doubt it will make any 18650 explode.

Ahh sorry my bad it is actually a 005 charger that came in a trustfire a8 package.

Read the specs of the battery. If not provided, then this is often safe: quality brand up to 1C, Chinese fire hazard brands up to 0.5C.

I don’t mean advertised C but real C of the battery. For the fire hazard brands you might as well cut their advertised capacity to 50-75% in most cases.

Temperature probe is advised, so you can cut it off when the temperature starts rising.

For the chinese fire hazard do you mean the **fire ones? Will an extra 250mah charging be a hazard for those fire brands if so I’ll invest in better quality ones as I do not want to get another charger.
