High current (2-3A) boost driver needed for 2x Ni cell input (1.8-3.0V)

I’m working on a lamp for a special application, that has two very large (~20Ah) Ni cells. The lamp originally had an incandescent bulb. I’d like to run a XM-L at full power, or at least >2000mA, but can’t find a suitable driver, and lack enough experience with magnetics to design one that doesn’t suck. Input voltage will range from <1.8V (dead) to >3.0V (right off the charger), and it needs to regulate the output pretty close to full power over this whole range. Multi-mode strongly preferred, so I don’t need to engineer it myself. The only driver I can find that claims >1200ma output is listed as “dubious” on the driver list, and from a glance at it, looks to have way undersized components for handling the >6A continuous input current, so I agree the rating is likely bunk. Paralleling isn’t likely to work. Any ideas?

Thanks,
