dedomed, direct bonded to copper XML2. Max current?

Hello everyone,

impressive little forum you have here.

I thought my first contribution should be a decent one. I’ve dedomed an XML2 and direct bonded it to copper. The copper plate will be water cooled with some old PC water cooling hardware. What I want to know is whats a reasonable or safe current for a direct bonded XML2? I’ve currently run it up to 5 amps for about 30 seconds, didn’t seem to have any color shift (I have a fully fledged colourmeter at work, need to borrow it)

I struggled with direct bonding any XML leds. I stripped the led seal and tinned the XMLs via pads, and then reflowed the LED onto my copper block. But even with a 60watt 460 deg C weller ROHS iron I could not get a lead in wire to stick to the pads, and if I had the lead in wires on the led before reflowing, the reflowing process got the solder on the wire pads liquid again. After destroying 2 XMLs I changed tact and made a copper sink slightly narrower then the thermal pad’s width. I also discovered the XML2’s upper surface is actually connected to the anaode and cathode and can be soldered to.
