EagleTac D25A Questions

I’m going to buy an EagleTac D25A Clicky Neutral White XM-L2 and need some info from the EagleTac experts!

I read somewhere the 2013 version retains all modes on 14500, is this true and if so is there any way to tell the difference between a 2012 and 2013 version other then just trusting the seller?

Is there is a 2013 aluminum version (black) in XM-L NW?

Does the Aluminum version of this light have exactly the same internals/driver as the Ti version?

I like black but at EagleTac USA the Ti is only $10.00 more.

EagleTac USA:
Black D25A XM-L T6 NW
2013 Ti D25A XM-L U2 NW
(Free Priority Mail shipping)

LightJunction:
Black D25A XM-L2 NW
2013 Ti D25A XM-L T6 NW
(.99 cents 1st class mail)

Very confusing…EagleTac USA shows the Black NW is T6, LightJunction shows it is XM-L2.
EagleTac USA Shows the 2013 Ti NW is XM-L U2, LightJunction shows it is T6.

Would it be better to run this light on 14500 or IMR (I know nothing about IMR, never had one)

It appears you can buy a “Mini” version and then add a “clicky switch battery tube” sounded like a nice idea to have a “convertable” (saw this idea on illuminationgear.com) but I guess the Mini is not available in XM-L.

i have the cool white light junction version XML2

14500 does retain modes however the modes are brighter than when used on a regular AA. Output is roughly doubled to my eyes.

lifepo4 does work quite well – this is the option i actually prefer. Doesnt get nearly as hot since lifepo4 voltage is less than li-ion… output is increased about 50-60% and the low modes are still somewhat low (although still brighter than AA nimh)

Would you mind keeping the wrong flashlight?
Best wish, May

After looking again at the listing of the 2013 Ti at EagleTacUSA it does show T6, above the description that shows U2, so I assume the description was just copied from the CW version.

EagleTac USA:
2013 Ti D25A XM-L T6 NW

So the only questions I have now is: Is there is a 2013 aluminum version (black) that retains all modes on 14500?
And does the black (aluminum) version of this light have exactly the same internals/driver as the Ti version?

I’m considering the Ti version since it seems like a good price.

I sent an email to EagleTac for the answers, I’ll post their reply here when I receive it.

Thanks for the info, I will look into those as well, but I guess I’d have to buy a different charger too.

I have the D25C clicky Titanium model. My first and only Titanium light. It’s my favorite light. I always wanted to try Titanium, it’s beautiful, but I would have been perfectly happy with the non titanium version as the threads on a Titanium light are a bit rough.

If I’m ever in a theatre and someone starts shooting, I will turn the strobe on on this light – it’s very bad!

Reply from EagleTac: (they replied on Saturday morning about 4 hours after I sent the inquiry!)

Hi Joel,

The D25A RC and D25A RC TI use the same new drivers that will retain all modes.

XM-L2 T6 NW is available in both the black and Ti version.
It is about 4500K.

Cheers!

I am very tempted to get one of these. Do you know if the pre-flash is still there with the XM-L2 versions of this light?

I never reviewed the d25a 2013 fully and i don't know if the 2013 xp-g2 has the same driver as the the 2013 xm-l2 but .. my xp-g2 2013 pumps 2.1A out of the Eneloop AA, and it's hard to believe that the xm-l2 2013 pumps even more juice to the emitter. so my half-a**ed thread might still provide some useful hard facts.

Sorry I don’t have the answer to that, maybe someone else knows? kreisler didn’t say anything about it in his ^review ^, but he admits it wasn’t a full review. Smile

In fact I didn’t even know what “Pre Flash” was until you brought it up and I researched it! A bright flash right before coming on in moonlit mode. I hope it’s not still there, I wouldn’t expect that in a non budget light such as this, but I don’t think that would be a deal breaker for me.

But I do know EacleTac is VERY quick to respond to Inquires, here’s a link where to input your inquiries: EagleTac Support

If you inquire please post their reply here, thanks.

Here is the reply from Eagletac:

Hi,

It will slightly pre-flash when you turn on the light on low mode, however, it is almost not noticeable. It will not re-flash on other modes.

Cheers!

It looks like Eagletac's website (www.eagletac.com) is gone... probably because they forgot to renew their domain name. Does anybody know if they have an alternate website or e-mail address for questions/support?

That is the same e-mail address that Christina used to e-mail me from. It does not work anymore too, which is not too surprising if they lost their domain or missed a payment. A quick check indicates the domain is not set to expire until 5/25/2014.

I checked and its up tonight, I’ve been going on their site quite often and I’ve never seen it down yet.
Here’s the link again for the support form on their site: http://www.eagletac.com/html/contact/features/support.html

My D25A XM-L2 NW arrived yesterday. It looks nice and is smaller and weighs less than I expected. I always get fooled by the size from looking at pictures. I tried a protected Sanyo 14500 from Intl-outdoor and found out that I could not change to group 2 modes. Next I tried my Trustfire Flames and had no issues changing to group 2 modes. The protected Sanyo is probably too long for this light.

In my opinion, the modes are pretty evenly spaced out when using a 14500 in the regular group 1 (non-moonlight) modes. However, when using the reduced output group 1 (with moonlight) modes, the low and medium is a little closer in output that I would prefer. The turbo on 14500 is definitely bright! However, I can feel the heat building up almost immediately. There is pre-flash when the light is turned on (group 1 and 2) but I do not notice any when I change modes. It does not bother me because pre-flash it not too bright.

Overall, I really like this light. I hope that Kreisler comes up with another Eagletac review soon.

I have gone through all dealers listed in ET site (except european one as the price is much higher), no luck to find D25A clicky Ti with XP-G2. no luck on XM-L2 version too.
when the dealer has either one of the item, the shipping cost alone is enough to buy another nice light.

anybody found good deal elsewhere which have good pricing and reasonable shipment rate as what goinggear has, to south east asia?
Goinggear doesn’t have titanium version in stock at the moment.

I have the XP-G2 2013 Ti version. Got it from nkon.nl, at a very, very good price, through the good negotiation skills of Mr Kreisler. Wink That deal is no longer possible, and you are right, the light seems to be out of stock in even the expensive European dealers (flashaholics.co.uk / nkon/nk, ledfire).

I contacted ET to seek possibility of buying direct and the response is to buy from Eagletac-USA, one of their dealer which still have stock at quite pricey tag..

guess have to wait Goinggear restock..

@woody, how do you find the heat when using Li-ion or LiFePo4?

It does get hot pretty quickly on 14500 Li-ions (don’t have Lifepo4). One thing though – the pre-flash disappears with the higher voltage. It’s the main reason I don’t use eneloops – the preflash really annoyed me on moonlight.
