anyone know how to reset a Fluke 175

I won a Fluke 175 on e-bay last week & it arrived a couple of days ago,but not measuring, the screen has all the

symbols like it's blocked but not broken. When I talked to the seller(400 transactions,100%+ve)he said it needs

a reset(hard, soft?),also that it was working fine 2 days previously.Straight away he offered reimboursement.

Even without working,I can see what all the fuss is about just by the leads, silicon with banana type concave

strips to guarentee a solid connection. He doesn't know how to do a reset & me neither. If anyone knows the

manipulations I would be very grateful.

Be warned these direction were for a different fluke, but you could give this a shot?

The 175/177/179 doesn’t have any of those buttons. The manual for my 179 doesn’t specify any reset procedure, but has power-on options listed:

While pressing the “HOLD” button,

VAC switch position turns on all LCD segments.

VDC switch position displays the software version
number.

mV switch position displays the model number.

Hope this helps!

what about taking the battery out? worth a try?

Thanks guys.

I’ve swopped out the battery already,8.9v for 9.53v from a cheap meter, same result. The fuses are good as well.

In any dial position it gives the”hold+VAC”screen, all LCD segments. In “hold+mV”I got 1.02.3.I tried a Google search

with “Fluke 175”,then added “reset”,then added “1.02.3”,still nothing.I’m not sure it has a user reset,I downloaded the

manuel Didge has,no sign of a reset, reinitialisation.Probably have to send it back.

I’ve got a VC99 on the way which,in reality,will cover my needs,just the 175 popped up on e-bay for 80 euros,I

bid and no one else did. Shame it doesn’t work :frowning:

Hi Billy! If he knows it needs a “reset”, but doesn’t know how to do it as a previous owner? Seems a little unlikely. You could try contacting Fluke just in case. Changing the battery should be enough I would think, since the manual mentions nothing of reset. Another thought; maybe this is what could happen when there is a fault with the screen?

I would take him up on the offer for refund.

I think I’ll take PilotPTK’s advice and send it back.I’ve already swopped the battery and contacting fluke could be the

start of a marathon. If the original owner has the receipt,he’s in a better position for repairs, maybe under guarentee

I thought I read somewhere that they are guarenteed for life.Another one will turn up.

I don't know why you wouldn't contact fluke . people can speculate till the cows come home but would you kick yourself if you found out it was guarentee for life ? i know the 77 that I have is guarenteed fro life I assume that it isn't true for all models but I'd ask .pick up the phone it costs nothing to ask them ..and a whole lot smarter than asking here .

I'm quite sure the 175 does have a lifetime warranty - however, you'll have to be able to prove ownership (original receipt). I just wouldn't go to the hassle - if the seller is willing to refund you, get your refund and buy one that works when you get it..

I sent the 175 back this lunchtime. Thanks again for the input, but if he’s still got the original invoice, the seller has access to the lifetime warrenty. It will be far simpler for him to get to the source of the problem & I’ll let him know I’m still up for the dmm if it gets reset(he only lives 60km away).

I’ll leave it at that for now.

Meanwhile I picked up the Vichy vc99 while dropping off the Fluke.I’ll see how I get on with that.

It would be interesting to see if he relists it.

Well, to update,I sent the 175 back.Got an e-mail,Paypal won’t let him reimburse,could I do it.Er,not without trashing his

100% +ve feedback.So,cheque then,bty,got a fluke 115,interested?I checked on u-tube,braodly the same spec,ok.

Last Saturday,30th June,postman rings.I open the parcel,a fluke 175,turn it on,the SAME fluke 175.

Turns out his assistant had the two in front of him and sent the wrong one.I know what you’re thinking, but you don’t

get a 400 sales 100% +ve on e-bay if you’re a crook.Anyway,to prevent this saga becoming an epic,I offered to come to

him 100km away to swap directly, but he was passing through by the motorway 30km away Thursday. At 5:45 PM,two

dodgy looking geezers swopped packages at the motor way exit.Another simple e-bay transaction.

I am now the proud owner of a Fluke 115 which is perhaps one level down from the 175 series(says designed in USA

hence not built there,no dedicated mA range)but you can rotate the selector one handed with your thumb.

An AW IMR 1.6Ah cell that measures 3.781v on the Vichy VC99,measures 3.775v on the Fluke,0.006volts less,so

both meters seem to be in spec.

The End

Did you make sure you weren’t followed before the drop? :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to hear you got a working meter!

What a story! Thanks for sharing!

To reset the 175 turn it around flip it upside down and shake it all around.
Or you could just use one of the test leads and press the reset button at the back of the machine at the top in the middle behind the screen, it looks like a screw hole but it’s the reset button recessed. If you want a picture of where it is i’ll put one up for you if you like ?.

Please do! I can’t find it on mine.

Cheers

Edit: I think I found it! (needed magnifier) Labelled “Cal Point” and hiding behind the soft backing skin. Haven’t been able to find that in the manual!

Edit #2: Found it in the calibration manual, but it says it is to allow the input of new calibration values… hmm…
