SMALL SUN ZY-T08

As usual, Dale shows up a day late & a dollar short again. I received this light in a recent trade. Heard a lot of talk about them. Just never got around to getting one.IMO, this is a must have light for any flashaholic. At only 635 lumens it’s not gonna burn a hole in the ceiling. But, it throws excellent. The build on the light is much better than many other ‘budget’ lights. It takes two 18650’s & has around 40,000 kcd. With all things considered. For $25? That’s a no brainer.

This light was not sent to me by any business. This is a completely independant review. I have no idea where you order these from… Lmao

Wait till you put a de-domed XP-G2 in it and fix the reflector so it really throws. Smile

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

LOL

Actually they are really nice the way they are too. You get more throw with it modded but it’s not as versatile anymore, no more nice useful flood. A light saber is cool but not really that great for walking with.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

lol that was funny, I don’t own this light (yet) but admiring it through pictures I have a hard time getting used to the weird bottom on that thing. I guess whenever I do finally get one in my hand it will make more sense.

As do I. Tom turned a nice little light in to an awesome light. I took it on my trip to Big Bend and it shined on a mountain peak 975 meters away and it made it. I was very impressed.

Sorry Dale! Not meaning to derail your thread.

Nice thing about a lightsabre is it doesn't piss off all your neighbors like a floody light does .Only the one whose bedroom wall you burnt a hole in .."OMG HArold wake up . aliens have landed "

"Go back to bed Mildred ....it's that moron down the street and his new thrower "

On Convoy L2 I got 200kcd at only 3-3.1 amps (sinkpad+dedomed xm-l2 u2+slightly increased current on stock driver),and 270kcd at 5.7Amp,so those 210 kcd at 4.3 amps is ok number considering small sun’s slightly smaller reflector+no AR glass.

This is manxbuggy1’s 208K throw, T08 with XML2 dedomed. It’s a little bit of a weak spot, but it is putting some light on the mountain top at 975m –

Oh, got 3 of these stock T08's in - one is being built for a BLF'er, but I don't have a mod'ed one myself anymore and really miss it! Like an HD2010, it still puts out a lot of light, certainly not a laser beam type of throw...

Doesn't come close to the de-domed, resistor mod'ed TN31 I got though, at 347 kcd.

Hi,

Does anyone have any lux measurements for a stock ZY-T08 and for a stock ZY-T08 with a dedomed XM-L T6?

Thanks,
Jim

Hhmm, I do, or can easily get it, but can't this morning - can't get to my downstairs office/shop - guests sleeping downstairs... For throw, the stock #'s are in the 40's for kcd I believe.

Hi Tom,

Ok, thanks… if you have a chance.

Mine were as follows:

  • Stock SS ZY-T08: 33347 (33.3 Klux)
  • Dedomed Stock SS ZY-T08: 61042 (61.0 Klux)

I took the 1st reading (stock) with my original meter, and the 2nd reading with my new/2nd lux meter, confirming with the original meter.

Again, this is stock, no resistor mods or anything.

I think that stock, it was underperforming a little, but mainly, I was interested in seeing the percentage increase after the dedome, and it looks like lux did increase just about 100% with the dedome.

I also took the dedomed T08 outside with my shorty dedomed, direct driven FF STL-V6 with XM-L, which is now getting about 122 Klux n the same lux meters, and I can actually see the difference in the brightness of the spot, at distance (~50 meters and ~100 meters).
