I received the AA DQG from cnqualitygoods.com yesterday. It took around 10 days to receive after placing the order. I have to say for $29.00 it’s a little piece of jewelry!
The build quality is very good with very minor scratches on the matte stainless steel surface but that’s going to happen just carrying it around for a few days. The CREE XP-G2 R5 LED is well centered and the on/off screw activation is smooth and somewhat stiff but I like that as to prevent accidental activation’s when carrying.
I’m running it on a TrustFire, (“flame cell”), 14500 protected cell and the low mode is about right for me and the high has a nice, large hotspot with plenty of spill and throw and is very white with no hint of either blue, green or yellow.
I love simple UI’s where you don’t have to put a lot of effort into memorizing and then after not using them for a short while, you forget the procedure and it doesn’t get any simpler than this!
If I have one complaint, (and I really can’t call it a complaint), is that it’s somewhat heavy as it’s made from solid stainless steel. Because of that though, it’s heavy-duty construction should last a lifetime and the SS really gives it a classy look.
All in all, I think it’s a “must have” for any flashlight accumulator.
P.S. Since joining BLF, I can’t stop buying these inexpensive and great little Chinese lights! It’s like eating potato chips!
Sounds fun. I know the feeling of spending too much. I’ve swallowed $200 in purchases last month. I’ve got to back off, but I know it’ll never really end!
I have Nitecore NL147 cells and those are way too long, although they are only 0.7mm longer than the Trustfire ones. Maybe there was a change to the DQG AA.
Must have been the as this AA version seems to fit just about any AA no matter what the form factor. Glad I bought this latest version. I’m sure I’ll like the AAA version if it’s anything like this AA. Thanks.
You were so right HBomb concerning the o-rings. Even with this latest version, if you’re not careful, the o-rings will bunch up when twisting the head to turn the light on and off.
Indeed they are finicky, but I only had to watch out when changing batteries. Luckily, I found some thinner black o-rings of proper diameter lying around and substituted them for the stock red ones. I have 1 in the groove and 1 on the bottom of the threads now with some silicone lube. The head goes on and off much better now.
HBomb, if you don’t mind would you be able to identify the rest of those lights? I only recognize a couple, but that super narrow silver light looks pretty cool, as does the 90-degree light.
More than half the year I wear shorts, and the SK68 is the max weight EDC that doesn’t make it an all day event keeping the shorts from sliding off my rear. I’m actually looking around for something less weight, SS is pretty, but aluminum seems like a better choice for both weight and heat.
