Anyone have this happen (Wallbuys)

I recently submitted a couple of reviews on Wallbuys’ website, for a GF2 and SL3.

I was kind of surprised to receive TWO kind of snippy emails from someone who identified him/herself as “zhou”, criticizing my review and telling me what they thought was wrong with my review (“too short” and “no pictures” - huh?).

Has anyone else here tried to submit a product review there, and had this happen?

Apologies for posting this, but kind of ticked about their attitude towards customers. I responded to his/her email and told him/her to either post the review or not, but I didn’t need their criticism.

Zhou I believe is who everyone refers to here as “Cherry.” Facebook keeps reminding me that she likes Walmart, McDonalds, M&Ms, etc., and apparently every single FB advertisement.

I did a review on my Warrior, and I got back “but this review is so so so short”, I told them just to delete it. Which really didn’t matter because they didn’t even post it anyway. They told me maybe I could edit it, etc. I said no thanks.

I submitted one for the Ultrafire SS C3 and got about the exact same email. I understand that they want some nice buyer generated content- and it probably isn't prudent to give every person that submits a lame review 1/2 their purchase... BUT... it keeps them from having any reviews of those products on their website. Maybe they should be less stringent with their review approval processes- but make a disclaimer about the half-off stuff. Maybe only half off if you do a video or something. For me though, I'm not going to bother shooting and editing a video for a $7 product- so I can get $3.50 back. Especially if there are tons of other reviews out there for the product I purchased.

That said, I've won several things from their current insanity sales, and some of which doesn't have any videos out there. So if I do a video for any of those lights, I'll submit them for approval. The sorts of videos I do take a long time to make.

Musn’t sell our souls for a 50% discount. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mine was all good comments about them and the light because I like the light and I got it in 10 days which was very fast. Heck I even had a pic or two, weights with and without batteries, etc. and it wasn’t good enough!! My 1st review was my last.

Maybe that (the 1/2 off thing) was their so snipping. I don’t mean to sound self-righteous, but I submitted those reviews to provide info to other potential buyers that weren’t on their website, and I submit reviews on other sites like FT, Amazon, and Newegg all the time, and none of them provide any incentive. It just surprised me not just that they didn’t post the review, but they’d actually come back to me (a customer) with that in face type “attitude”, even when I thought I was helping them out.

Sorry for the rant…

This is who the billing statement states as their name on my account. AC-LIU CHUAN SHENG. (despite their denial it still shows up that way, I just checked it again after my last orders) I don’t know who Zhou is but it’s probably one of the many employees that they have called Cherry. I have had more than one Cherry responding to me at the same time. Either that or Cherry has split personalities.

My guess is that they assume you are trying to get the 50% off and the snippy e-mail is their way of saying, “don’t even bother asking your’s doesn’t qualify”.

As for the Facebook thing that really is annoying. Somehow they managed to spam by wife’s account. I don’t have a facebook account but I might have used hers to “like” something at one time or another for a promotion. Anyway it ticked her off because she is very active on facebook with her hobbies. (nail art and crochet) She doesn’t need that garbage popping up on her page.

Sorry Cherry but my wife doesn’t want to be your “friend” anymore. (blocked)

LOL!

@ohaya - If you used the “submit it soon” link to send the review, they assume you want the 50% discount. There is another link about three lines down on the right hand side of the page: “Write a review”. I am guessing they are not as picky about the review when the second link is used.

Ahh. That might be it, because I think I did click that “submit it soon” link.

I agree entirely. They need to make the review submission process more like- you know, most other websites. Because since most of their stuff doesn't have reviews, it almost makes it seem like a fly-by-night scam outlet. I mean, we know it's not- but they need to have that sort of customer presence that other such trusted retailers have, if they want to grow. I've submitted plenty of reviews to other sites, taking time out of my own schedule to write a review about a purchase- never having received monetary compensation (too). The 20 minutes I spent on that review, and being shot down, is going to keep me from try again.

Just saw this post. I had no idea!

Sorry, but this is hilarious!

The somewhat ascerbic captions no doubt rubbed them the wrong way. Their removal shows just how short-sighted they are: If they allowed negative reviews, assuming they are accurate as yours seem to have been, I think it would give them credibility. And the lack of negative reviews of any kind should be a warning to any experienced shopper.

That’s the best review ever.

A photo’s worth a thousand words, so what’s more?

A photo with words!

Oops, confused the OP’s post with the picture review, which is funny but accurate. The one remark is a little crass, but overall it looks spot on. That’s why I prefer to buy my own review samples. If it sucks, there’s no expectations for me to say otherwise.

Wallbuys originally contacted me through my blog email and told me that I should start buying flashlights from them and doing reviews, which they would then give me 50% off the light if they liked the review. They kept pushing me on that, and finally I just stopped responding. It didn’t sound like a very good deal. Since “review sample” to me is code for “I bought stuff on the Internet, now how do I justify it after the fact?”, I wasn’t going to start shopping with them just for a chance of getting a discount. I finally told them that they were welcome to send me samples and I would review them to the best of my ability, and they did send me a light to review. They are very nice to deal with overall other than being a little pushy.

But then I started reading all this stuff about them here at BLF and I started having second thoughts, and I sent them an email telling them that their review was done but that I was having reservations about working with them, based on what I read here. That’s the last I heard from them. But like I said, they were very nice to me. But I’ll say again that I don’t think “review and hope for a chance to get reimbursed” is very good motivation.

I was planning to give them a try, but I think this and some comments in other threads has put me right off. As well when I was shopping there I noticed the older Spark ST6 headlamp with the XM-L was selling for $108.00 while the Canadian Spark dealer has the XM-L2 for $99.00 also with free shipping, and the Solarforce lights are also a lot more from them than the Solarforce site. I’d probably even consider Banggood as an alternative, they seemed a bit chaeper on some of the items I compared. Guess I’ll stick with IOS, FT, and Solarforce as much as possible.

Horst,

Re. your situation, the thing that strikes me is that they don’t seem to understand, or appreciate, the amount of effort that you went through. Ignoring the honesty, I would have thought about the amount of time that it took to put those pics and comments together. but they apparently didn’t care enough to do even that. Kind of sucks on their part IMO :(.

This review “policy” is another reason not to buy from them.
