which do you buy for battery life at mid/high setting - not concerned about low?

One of my office mates wants a flashlight for hunting trips. Must be indestructable or close, have a near 2 hour battery life on either high or mid. He has a supply of AA form factor Eneloops so wants to use those. Best choice ?

My vote goes for the L2r w/ SF 3mode xp-g...mainly because I have this combo now and it impresses me everytime I use it. Outstanding output on high with a usable low and mid, and the ability to run off of one half dead cell if need be. The host is also pretty durable.

I don't have any experience with the others, although the C88 looks interesting mainly due to being 3xAA.

L2r baby!

L2R has the fugly factor to deal with. Skip it and get the L2i, run it on 3xAAA.

Put an Xp-G (or XR-E) with a smooth reflector in it and away you go hunting. I'd opt for the XR-E for the tight beam and throw.

why make it hard to answer your question ??

mcu -c-88 http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-c88-cree-q5-3mode-memory-led-flashlight-aa-p-4633

sipik ck91 http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/sipik-ck91-floodtothrow-zooming-cree-q4-convex-lens-led-flashlight-black-3aaa-p-5824

solarforce L2r http://www.solarforce-sales.com/product_detail.php?t=LF&s=31&id=151

my pick is mcu -c-88 you will have lights like the others ... not like this ..

Good quality, great throw (~300m) and solid as. Not done a runtime test, but it's still on it's first set of Eneloops after a week of regular use. (10-20min daily).

Only downside is its weight ~350g with batteries.....about twice that of the L2r.

The C88 is 3xAA, while the CK91 is 3xAAA. An AA has 2-3X the capacity of a AAA and your coworker has AA batteries, so the C88 should be favored over the CK91 on grounds of battery life and fit.

I can't comment on the C88 build quality because I've never used one. The L2r seems pretty rugged. It's a bit top heavy though, due to the ability to accomodate a standard P60 drop-in. The upside of this is that you can replace an obsolete or failed light engine without a soldering iron.

The L2i option mentioned by trooplewis is an interesting option b/c it's usable with 1xAA and a 15mm spacer ($2 from lightound). Of course, run time with a single AA won't be as long as a C88 with 3 AA batteries, but if carrying extra AA batteries is an option, then the exra versatility of being able to use AAA batteries in a pinch could be a plus.

L2r

or

C88

Definitely C88

i will choose C88 if he wants to use AA batterys

but i would recommand using 18650 batt for longer battery life, http://www.solarforce-sales.com/product_detail.php?id=154&s=31&t=LF

Rifle mounted hunting? Then multi-mode is not the best choice, because of accidental mode switching due to the weapon impact.

not rifle mounted , just for woods walking.

Good advice, I too like single mode lights on guns for that very reason.

As a sidebar, game hunting, after dark is usually illegal. I'm pretty sure that's not the case with problem animal control, and vermin.

I do have lights on my "house" guns though.

later,

For what you're using it for and with the choices you've given I'd go with the C88 on the basis of greater throw and longer runtime (XR-E and 3 AA).

A Solarforce is probably more versatile if you want to use different drop-ins later but if you don't it makes no difference. I don't particularly like battery tubes but that's just a personal preference.

The C88 seems like the best choice among the choices given and for the stated purpose.
