CREE XR-E Q5 300Lum LED Torch Flashlight Lamp Light 3 Modes 1x14500

Saw this on ebay, doesn’t look like a SK68 clone, fin area around the pill is tapered, tail is knurled and external, not internal threads, but features sound similar to a clone and its $4.33 shipped. Twist I think to focus, tempted to pick one up if not warned off.

CREE XR-E Q5 300Lum LED Torch Flashlight Lamp Light 3 Modes 1x14500

Hi/low/stb

Well for starters it has a reflector instead of a lens…so it’s definitely not a SK68! Focusing a reflector usually means it has a nasty black hole on the wide setting and the mechanism is somewhat complex…I doubt it’s in a cheap Ultrafire.

Appealed to me a bit, a variation on something known good, but now thinking unless I hear a positive review I will skip it.

Looks cheap enough that you could just try it. Suspect if it does have any “zooming” ability then it’ll actually be a focus like a Maglite. This isn’t a zoom, but is a way of optimising the beam for throw at distance, but allowing it not to have a donut hole when used at closer range.

i don’t think it zooms at all actually. It looks like this light on dx which is the little brother of this 18650 light. The 18650 light had good reviews especially as a mod host so the 14500 light may be reasonably good as well.

Definitely does not zoom.
I have the bigger 18650 version and other than a cheap plastic lens, it is a dang nice budget light.
Been wanting the 14500 version and this is half of what another site was asking, so a no brainer for me.
Thanks for the heads up!

Keith

Cheap one says XR-E Q5, DX is XP-G R5, but does look like same body. Both are 3 mode, hi, lo, stb, so maybe good candidate for a XP-G2 upgrade on the cheap one?

Buying these cheap Chinese lights is such a weird hobby. Now I need to decide on not only this light, but another XP-G2 star, but is it 14mm or 16mm? The SK68 is 16mm.

For $4.33 you Bad Boys talked Me into Buy Now. It looks like a good Mod Host.

My question is how cheap is the tail . i have a few saiks over here thta are just poor pressed in junk..one reason I'm not a sipik sk68 fan the clickies are a weak link .

If it's not a zoomie, and it doesn't appear to be, looking at the flat lens in the photo of it disassembled, then what do you think the second photo means, where it says "Rotate"? Just showing how to remove the bezel?

From the pictures, the fins are square, which is harder to machine and less effective than tapered trapezoidal fins.

I noticed a little, a variation of something that is well known, but now thinking unless I hear a positive review I’ll jump.

People have bought a few, somebody will have a review soon. I still have one on my watch list, but waiting to sort through a batch of other lights just ordered before I decide on more.

Boaz,
You hit it on the head, pressed in switch. Has a button though and does not look as cheezy as the Saik switch.
As far as the Sipik SK68 switch, I have never had one fail, just lucky I guess.

Anyway, on the upside this little Light pulls 1.30 amps on high and .28 on low and has a nice hot throw for such a cheap light. Transfers some heat to the head on high. Tint color is just white, has some small rings in beam but hotspot is nice.
The flashlight is very light in weight as well, be good for a backpacker if concerned with weight.
I received mine in 10 days.
Wish it did AA’s as well, would make good gifts for non-flashaholics who I can’t trust with Li-on.

Bottom line, if you do not want a zoomie and want a cheap light, this is a decent one for under $5 shipped.
Thanks,
Keith
