WTB: Throwers AND/OR solid flooders

Hey guys,

So I am interested in buying a few different things including a DereeLight (XSearcher or Night Master) or another solid thrower. I currently own a 7G5CS w/ aspheric head, 2x ZY-T13’s, FandyFire G36 and an ArmyTek Barracuda. I love throwers so interested in buying another one or two depending on what people have.

I used to have a SRKung but didnt like how hot it got so sold it. I am now looking to get a floody light again so let me know what you guys have.

I have been browsing the BST section and seen a few lights by 18sixfifty that I like but just want to see if anyone has something tat hasnt been listed before I commit to buying a light.

PM me what you got or post it here…..prefer a PM but whatever works Smile

Thanks in advance
Sean

EDIT: NOT INTERESTED IN DEREELIGHT ANYMORE NOR ASPHERIC THROWERS

EDIT #2: Below there is a discussion on Dereelights being a “good” hunting light. My recommendation for a hunting light would be SUREFIRE. Surefire has been making lights to withstand high caliper rifle recoil and are super quality! Just my 2 cents and if I wanted a rifle/hunting light, thats what Id buy. They are slightly more expensive but when you have a $500 rifle, why cant you buy a $150 light that will last the abuse your rifle will throw at it……….

elektrolumens big bruiser is a nice flooder

my signature pretty much has a number of the top throwers Smile

Would you mind keeping the wrong flashlight?

Idk, the dereelight new is like $100 so id say somewhere around there. I know for sure i dont want the BTU Shocker though. Im tempted to hit Vinh up for a custom build or the K40 for a thrower but flooder is another story. Havent done a whole lot of research on flooders since I didnt care for the Kung.

Im not saying $100 is my limit so if you have something you want to share with me then just let me know. Worst I can say is too rich for my blood

If you are ought to throw than be sure that almost nothing in whole wide world will beat Dereellights.

They are furthest throwing lights in a world in their size (and other much larger size flashlights).

And they are probably world furthest throwing single 18650 lights. Of course with little help of modified 7135 driver Smile

Nightmaster 50 mm head with tuned XP-G2 = 260KCD
Xsearcher 70mm head add on= 440KCD(and probably more)

They are flood to throw adjustable by rotating head.

Didnt realize they were flood to throw……interesting! Why would I want the XP-G2 over the XML version? Correct me if im wrong but isnt the XML a new emitter and a better emitter?

Smile Try both and then you will C

That kind of school cost me a lot in past Wink

XM-L2 is not Better than XP-G2… Well it really depends are you on lumen or lux hunting?

Look here:
Vinz made this DBS aspherical(same thing as NMV2) modification:

XRE VS XML-U3 VS XP-G2

I could recognize them any time.

XRE weakest(if 100 KCD is weak?), XML middle(140KCD), XP-G2(with precoolimated lenses) brightest 260KCD.

Really…….hmmm didnt realize the XP-G2 was that bright. always thought the XML was brighter Smile so I can buy the NightMaster and then get the XSearcher head as well……two lights in one correct?

Only finding the XRE for the dereelight. did they make it in the XP-G2?

Yes with both heads but don’t expect above mentioned numbers with their stock emitters. XRE EZ900 is only good for NMV2 it will be to tiny in XS.

You’ll have to made your own pills for that numbers or tell someone to made you. You have very wide selection of people that will do that instead of you. They are mostly on CPF but I am sure you could find someone on BLF.

Any well driven light will warm up fast... no way you can avoid it.  The question to me in picking a light, is whether I feel confident enough about it, that it can be left on high without supervision, and will not fry or damage itself.

The Terminator BS will step down when it gets HOT... for under $100 it has great flood, and is also quite throwy... it's the light I keep in my car.

For a thrower, I'll double down on the K40vn as the best option... you'll get around 400kcd out of it.  The TN31 mod is even better, but I don't think the gain in throw is worth the extra expense, and honestly, how often do you need to reach out to something a KILOMETER away?  (We have lasers for those distances ;))

I tried one deerelight secondhand.  To be honest, was not impressed at all by either the performance or the quality.  It felt like a rebranded chinese cheapie.

The above picture doesn’t tell the full story. Here is the deal. Given the same amps and not de-domed an XP-G2 will have more lux but still less lumens. But here is the rest, you can drive an XM-L2 U2 way harder than you can the XP-G2 and when you de-dome it you make the lumes per square inch go up. Throw is a combination of intensity of the emitter and size of the reflector. Now when you overdrive an de-domed XM-L2 you can get close to the same intensity but with even more lumens. So you might be able to get an XP-G2 to technically outthrow the best overdriven de-domed XM-L2 it won’t be by much and you will be putting a fraction of the light on target.

It’s the difference between seeing that your light is touching the target and actually being able to see the target. I stopped building XP-G2 throwers for that reason. It’s fun to be able to say that you put X amount of light so far, but so what if it doesn’t illuminate it enough to be able to see the target?

In the three above pictures it’s my suspicion that the XML-U3 is actually underdriven and not de-domed. The XP-E and the XP-G2 are probably maxed out and the XP-G2 looks de-domed from the tint. Dedome that XML-U3 and overdrive it and then see which one puts more light on the target.

I just built an aspheric thrower recently with an XM-L2 running at 6.5 amps and the throw is simply amazing but guess what? You still don’t seem to see the target as well as with a regular lens, I don’t really know why but it’s true.

I would personally stay away from super throwers with the XP-G2. Although I like the XP-G2 in smaller throwers a lot. When you get into XP-G2’s with a really large reflector you end up with a pinpoint light and it’s not enough to really light up the whole target. I might have to build a triple XP-G2 sometime with three emitters it might make a difference.

Just my two cents but I do think you will be happier with an XM-L2 de-domed thrower, it just puts way more total light on the target. The K40vn is supposed to be an excellent light. I don’t know how much he is asking though.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

k40vn is $160 with the case. Im leaning towards that light but Id have to sell a few things; like my 2.16W 445nm laser and possibly one of the ZY-T13’s or other lasers in order to buy that and a flooder.

BTW the XP-G2 with a deep reflector sounds like a RGD laser Wink IE gets that im saying
Oh and yeah, dare someone to built a flashlight that can reach out 5 miles and hit a target Wink

IE thanks for the heads up on the deerelight quality……I was kinda second guessing getting another aspheric for the fact that my 7G5CS gets used more with the stock head than aspheric. Leaning towards the K40vn

Idk on the terminator, i thought it had awful PWM on low and medium? Plus for $150 isnt it a little over priced when compared to say UltraFire UF-T90 for $70

Also I know any well driven light will get hot but the Kung was ridic. left it on for 10 minutes once and i literately needed to use a pen to turn it off since it was so hot. Even my C8 gets hot when left on for extended time, well actually more like warm but still.

SO ATM im going to grab the K40vn unless someone has something else they bring up in the next few days. NOW on to the flooder Wink

+1 to 18sixfifty Smile thanks for that, ill stick to XMLs and my love for there flood and throw

The only way to do a great work is to love what you do.

Wow I was just asking another member  about a dedicated thrower, and I don't want a pencilbeam I was looking a the Deree light in XML2-T6 A, I got a response from Deree lights customer service and they said the Xml2 lumens otf was about 800 but I didn't know how the aspheric lens would be until someone here spoke up thank you, so what options are the k40 and t31 and Tom E's modded trj-18 ? Thanks I always check here before purchasing a light.

The K40 and Tn31 both have spill and a larger hot spot than an aspheric lens. The J-18 is a flooder wall of light although modded properly it has quite a bit of throw just with brute power. For both flood and throw you can look into multi-emitter with a really large head.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

18sixfifty,

In pictures above XM-L U3 is de domed, XP-G2 is de domed, XRE with dome on.

There is a lot of point of putting XP-G2 into aspheric. But If you are not field using you will never know.

What is the point of overdriving XML to 6,5 A when you can have all that with even more throw with XP-G2 at 3A? It will maybe equal lux/kcd performance but it will kill 18650 battery in few minutes.

I definitely don’t recommend overdriven(6,5A) XML for aspheric flashlights and any single 18650 battery flashlights.

You will not see target? Smile That is just to funny for me… Yes you will not fully light extra big objects if you want to look for them.
When you talk about XP-G2 as pinpoint light which is unable to illuminate the target is just ridiculous to me. I am using that every day and I am well aware what it can illuminate especially at larger distances.

You should take things out from other perspective.

I will only talk for hunter population of people who can actually find use for “pinpoint beams”,

Currently there are no more useful scope hunting light than the one with XP-G2 (well and XP-E2 in smaller hosts).

Hunters should pay attention on:

1. Flashlight size will you be able to mount TN31, Olight SR95, BTU shocker and other on your rifle? No you will not. Ideal hunting light should not be more than 55 mm in head size.

2. Light intensity you don’t need high lumens here. You need as much lux/candela at the target as possible. So more lux/kcd means that you will reach and bring your target more clearly to your riflescope.
Lux/kcd will determine Usable light distance Sure there are lights that can reach very far with some faint light but do they have usable light distance? Distance at which you can clearly identify your target? You must find light that will satisfy your need at range.

3. Perception or what you can really see at night. What type of light you will perceive better? Reflector or aspheric type of beam?

When you turn on reflector LED light, your night vision is killed by spill light that is reflecting from those nearby objects(grass, ground, trees). Your pupil of the eye narrows and you see less. The brighter the environment is, the narrower is the pupil of the eye, so there’s a reduction in light that hits the fundus. It ruin your night vision

Aspherical light beam has sharp borders, so there is better contrast between illuminated area and dark area. The enhanced contrast lets you to perceive it brighter. It preserves your night vision

Aspheric type of beam does not scares game so much as reflector because they can also notice perception differences between these two types of the beam.

I would like to say that each of us should find use for certain type of flashlights, and not just talk about pinpoint, laser beam, no use, etc. which will actually repulse newbies from taking the light they could actually need.

At the end I will say that Dereelight is top quality hunting light that was well recognized among hunters in Europe especially in UK, able to withstand highest caliber rifle recoils but probably USA hunters started to recognize such qualities when Saablusters sells them tuned at onestopthrowshop.com

It offers:
Quality, Durability,Versatility, Upgradeability

With one flashlight you can have all this:

- No 1 commercial available 50mm aspheric thrower in a world(260KCD of throw with tuned pill)
- With IR P60 drop in One of the best IR illuminators in a world
- With aluminium pill holder it accepts any classic P60 drop in(just unscrew reflector and screw back into pill holder).
- Probably the best P60 host in a world with excellent heatsinking ability

Upgradeable with:

- 70 mm Xsearcher(aspheric) head (400+KCD of throw with tuned pill)
- red,yellow,blue,white, multimode/singlemode drop ins
- extension tube to run 2×18650 or 3×16340 if needed

And I don’t know if it still can but for older versions(DBS) you could even order reflector heads with desired reflector style(reflector for XRE,XML,MCE)

Yeah and $200+ Ill pass on that option unless you know where to get one cheap

Edit: im not a hunter…..I have a crelant 7g5cs with aspheric head so doubt the dereelight will be any better after reading even more reviews. I can care less on my night vision since I want to illuminate a larger target at s distancce, not just a deer at 200 yards.

K40vn looks like the choice for thrower. Waiting on 18650s response on his light for sale since the link to relics light had broken images so not sure what it loks like Sad

We will throw the line here:

Hunters pay attention to my post in Livinloud thread but don’t listen to him and similar guys that has 0 experience with hunting & dereelight flashlights claiming that you can only lid a deer at 200 yds, or pinpoint beam, laser beam etc.

You can lid whatever you want from close to far range because Dereelights are focus adjustable lights.

Livinloud,

U should not even mention Dereelight as an option in your thread if you are familiar with aspheric types of beam and if you have similar lights.

Guess you cant read well………I HAVE A 7G5CS WITH ASPHERIC HEAD. I am familiar with sshperics and from the photos of the dereelight along with reviews it seems to have a smaller beam. I have also yet to find a review that talks aboyt this flood to throw feature. Is that on the V1 or V2?

Also I trust IE, if he says it seems cheap in build then its cheap in build quality. Have you held a crelant or armytek light? Those are quality lights and built like tanks.

Also you seem to be confused……IE and I are talking about “laser beams” because we are legit referencing lasers tgat we both own, have yiu seen his avatar?

No offense but you have been here less than me, way less thsn 18650 & IE as well…..yiur avatar is a dereelight to boot, kinda seem like a dereelight fan boy to me…….broaden your horizons buddy, there ate way better lights outb there. If dereelight was the shit like you make it out to be then why is the only place yiu can buy it is through dereelight? No one has made a replica of it either……idk if youve noticed but all the good lights have copies from chinese companies trying to mske s buck off the high quality lights they are imitated.

Pretty set on NOT buying a dereelight at this moment so ig all you are going yo do is push the dereelight then I will respectfully ask you to bow out of this convo.
Thanks

For a flooder, I love my TN30 but not sure if that’s more than you are wanting to spend? Alternatively, as already suggested, an MT-G2 equipped light is awesome. I tried one in a Trustfire X8 and even in a narrow deepish reflector I couldn’t believe how floody it was! My next light will definitely be an SX25L3 with an MT-G2.

Are you only after an aspheric thrower or would you also look into a normal reflector thrower like a TN31 etc.?

Hi there, Livinloud. Just today I got my K40 back: modified by Vinh. From level 4 onwards (there are 6) it smokes my Xsearcher (EZ900) J)
It’s now my baddest thrower. Tint is nice, too Smile
I doubt you’ll find a better thrower for (I think) $160 (shipping within the US).

Lights out! That's when things get interesting...

K40 just put the final mail in the dereelight debate……..no dereelight for mr, will edutbtyebtitle when I get home

The fire on a hot topic here already, but iam a hunter and here in Arizona it is illegal to hunt at night for anything except varmits. I.e. coyot es , foxes and bobcats I believe when living loud mentioned he was looking for a thrower I never heard him mention it was for hunting or had to fit on a rifle, I like living loud would like a thrower with some spill not a narrow beam I myself was interested in a Dereelight at first untill I saw a YouTube video of a side by compassion of a dereelight and another light , iam sorry I don't remember which light it was a UK made YouTube video. I personally would like a light with throw primarily and spill secondarily .and would fit in my hand easily .so now I would like other peoe opinion on which thrower the modded K40 or T31?EDIT:! I just wanted to add I do have zy-to8 modded witha MT-G2 with a very neutral tint iam guessing somewhere in the 4000 k range and it has a huge huge hot spot , it throws decently  but its primarily a flood and secondarily a thrower I brought this up because someone metioned a MT-G2 as a possible thrower.

I agree I he obviously wasn’t looking for a hunting light and even if he was how do you mount that light on a rifle and is it even shock resistant? When I say target I don’t mean something to shoot at I meant the “target” of the light whatever that might be. I like an aspheric lens ok but it’s a very limited use light. Oh and I am not buying that picture above with the given specs. Something just isn’t right there. That XML-3 must be very underdriven and then even so if it’s that close in lux as it’s stated there is no way that the second and third picture can be accurate. It’s not even twice the lux but it’s about five times as bright in the picture. something smells.

Well anyway on to your question. Both the K40 and the T31 are supposed to be amazing lights from what everyone has said and it all depends on if you feel like spending the extra for the Tn31. It’s a little better light but is it worth it to you to pay a lot more for not that much better of a light? Either one will be an amazing light. It’s simply unreal what happens when you put that many amps through a de-domed XM-L2 and push it through a large reflector. You get a ton of throw but really the spill is bright too.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.
