AAA GLO-TOOB - which colour?

I noticed FastTech WallBuys and DX have the new AAA GLO-TOOB’s and after looking at articles and reading some reviews I convinced myself that I need one (I don’t really).

I want to get one that will be the most multifunctional so I’m not sure what colour to get.

Red would be good for preserving night vision
White would be good for using as a lantern
Amber would be good for emergencies perhaps
Green would be good for reading maps
Not sure what blue would be good for.

I’m trying to decide out of red or white (possibly amber) which one to get that will be the most multi purpose.

Which colour do you would be most useful and why?

Green for good contrast and perception…pleasing to the eyes - imho.

I bought the Glo-Toob Lithium model a couple of years ago. FANTASTIC LIGHT!!! I didn’t hesitate spending $45 on it. 11 modes. Waterproof to 11,500 feet. Indestructible. Battery life 24-100 hours depending on mode. It’s incredible. I run mine on a 16340 cell. I got white.

AAA looks nice for about$18. 15 hour runtime. Fasttech looks to only have the white one. Maybe there are some videos on Youtube you could watch? Get a couple of them!

enjoy it…

I would get white. I don’t think you have an option of tint though so it’s probably quite cool. Something about green and red LEDs vs filters, they’re just too narrow spectrum-wise, that you lose a lot of visual information.

Are these durable enough to last on a roughly treated key chain?

I bought white the day after I posted this (about a week ago), depending on if I like it or not I might get the red as well.

@brad, they are supposed to be pretty tough, but the older 12v alkaline ones look tougher as they have steel ends. I saw the batteries for less than $1 each but I wanted AAA because I can recharge them, even better would have been a AA version for me but they don’t make them.

more expensive by quite a bit, but built like a tank, 11 modes and some really nice ones including burst, high, low, sos. Comes with 2 different caps, one for submerging in water. I believe yours has 3 modes? These are great for an emergency beacon.

The ones on FastTech say blue, white or orange in the Light Source Colour stats.
I think I’d choose white or orange, blue might be confused wiyh the emergency forces, at least in the U.K.

My “GLO-TOOB” arrived about the middle of the week and its surprisingly good.

Even on low I can see perfectly around my room in the hard with it sitting on something high.

Missed out on a opportunity to use it tonight working under the bonnet of my car as I forgot to take it with me.

How long do they last on low using NIMH?

I’ve had it on low for 12+ hours and it still had juice left in the battery when I woke up, not sure exactly how long it would last but the website says 15 hours on a alkaline battery.

I don’t really like running NiMH batteries dead flat so I probably won’t be able to tell you exactly but I suspect a good NiMH will last as long as a standard alkaline battery.
