Looks sweet to me.

XM-L L2?

Xm-l2

XM-L2 (just thought I’d say it seeing as everyone else is)

From the pics it looks like a 4x7135 driver, so 1400mA. Kind of a mis-match to use an XM-L with that low a driver.

How does one go about selecting the mode option? I would assume the 3 mode is high-medium-low with no blinkies but you never know (looking at you, SRK)

Can you explain the mode options and how to choose one in an order?

I can't see that it is a lineair driver at all (just the contact plate), I would be surprised. Am I missing a picture?

It could be a contact plate, but have you ever heard of a C8 coming with a 2-board driver? For the price, emitter used, and the apparent [high] quality of machining/ano, I’d bet a 4x7135, just my guess.

I formulated it unclear, I meant the battery contacts, so it is a driver that has components on one side, but not neccessarily a 7135 based driver, more probable direct drive with a current limiting resistor and a pwm-controller.

So guys, how bright will this be, if I can get it in single mode it will make a good (cheap) light to send to a country living friend of mine.

He doesn’t need another normal light, just a thrower light to check noises out the back door without leaving the porch, he doesn’t have any modern lights at all and it has to be cheap, cheap.

no way to know for sure, probably no more than 600 lumens otf!
I think the Convoy C8 for $16.93 is better deal

Are you kidding me? 600lumens

no, ~600 with freshly charged battery, maybe if you are lucky up to 700 if you use NCR18650PD or similar high current battery…

3A makes 1050 lumens on an Al star from an XM-L2. I don’t know about the new William Shatner Cree…XM-L …L2 model.

Given that he states 3A, can’t do a lot of speculating when there are so few actual facts and no review.

Ah now I have seen it it is no nanjg driver but one of these weird ones…

Edit: just compared it to the driver I had in mind and this one has two FETs instead of one…

The main thing is the driver, body looks fine to me (although there are no macro photos for better assessment) but without taking a look at the component side of the driver or without a review there is no way to be sure what output it will have.
In my experience only those incarnations of C8 flashlight that utilise NANJG 105C driver can achieve higher outputs but for 3A you would still have to add one AMC chip.
Even drivers that are advertised as 5A have problem achieving 3A so it would really have to be good driver and for this price I am convinced that this is not the case. There is also a possibility that contact board is used to get few mm of space for battery and that the driver is actually inside the pill, odds for that -> very low.
3 weeks ago I purchased Convoy C8 hosts from Simon for ~14$/piece so no led and no driver for 14$, they should be top quality… I still did not receive them, thou :frowning:
