Detatched/ Torn Retina in the Eye

Has that ever happened to anyone here. My retina tore all of a sudden 5 days ago. I’ve had laser twice so far but my eye is full of leaky blood so I can’t see from it really. Doctor said I have an 80% of keeping my eye which is good but the blood he said is a real problem. If it doesn’t stop in the next week I have to get surgery. I’m pretty nervous about the whole thing.

That makes me sad to hear.

I for one hope you'll keep you eye and avoid that surgery. Keeping my fingers crossed for sure.

Don't really know what else to say. Keep the spirit up.

To answer your question, no. I can only wish you a speedy recovery and get well soon. Hopefully time and you being a good patient will pay dividends. All the best.

I had a blood vessel burst in my right eye last winter. It pushed my retina away from the back of the eye ruining the vision in my right eye.I went through a lot of tests but in the end, time off from work and and lowering of stress(not easy to do for me) made all the differance. It took several months for my eye sight to return and it was VERY scary. The loss of ones sight, even in one eye is a very scary experiance.I know what you are going through and it is not fun.I pray that things work out for you and your sight returns.Peace be with you!-Rick

I don’t know about your condition, I really can’t say anything about it.

Wish you all the best with the treatment, hope you don’t need to go surgery, hang in there.

How long were you off work for. I’ve only been off for 3 days and it sucks. My girlfriend is on careful watch making sure I don’t do anything that could make it worse.

Yes, I have heard of that before, and that they can stitch it back with lasers. Good luck, I hope you recover soon!

I’ve had a family member with a similar experience but it happened due to lupus.I have suffered a scratched cornea which is mild compared to your situation.Good luck to you and I wish the best for you and your recovery.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hang in there and think healing thoughts. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.

I had surgery for a retinal tear in my right eye this June. The operation lasted about 35 minutes and was a routine operation for the surgeon. I went back the next day for a check-up and all was well. It took about three weeks for the eye to fully recover and I am now due to go back for my final follow-up check in about a month.

I hope all goes well for you and if you do have to go for surgery be assured the prognosis can still be good.

I had the same problem in both eyes.
In the left one, i can’t remember when it occurred, i was a child. I have only 10% of sight remaining in that eye since then.
in the right eye, the first time i had the problem i was around 10 YO, lots of tests but not a healing. i was stuck with a 60% of sight remaining in that eye.
then, 20 years later, when i was 29 it happened again, and this time i lost another 30% in the right eye, i´m now stuck (I hope so) at 30 and 10%.

It amazed me the ability of the brain to get adapted to the changes in the eyesight. last time I suffered it I was annoyed all day long seeing that blind spot in the middle of my eye: A week later, I didn’t even notice it (if I was not doing it on purpose). 2 months later I couldn’t even remember how it was to have a (bit) better eyesight.

I had to leave the job, as i didn’t pass the medical examinations after 6 months off, and I lost my driving license some months after buying the convertible I was dreaming of during many years. But after that happened I could spend time at home (I was working abroad 35-40 weeks a year), and i had a son, who maintains me busy all day.

Gtamazing and Raw 74, I wish you a proper healing, take much care of yourselves (i´m not good at this, sorry, i really wish you the best)

I hope everything goes well for you and your eye recovers 100%. Good luck!

That’s scary. I do hope that your doctor can fix it for good.

20 years ago due to my diabetes are you seeing a retina specialist?the procedure is called a vitatorectomy i cant spell it perfectly sorry and if it wasn’t for that sugary i was blind in my right eye and would still be blind ,right now 20 years plus i have about 70% of my original vision .but considering the other option i would be blind s9 i am grateful its a pretty basic out patient surgery but no lifting anything heavy or you could pop stitches 8n eye!

Sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself and follow doctors instructions. I'm sure we'll all keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

sorry to hear that & Hope it can be cleared up soon.

i am 47 and have been near sighted all my life…i woke up about 4 years ago and noticed that my right eye was no longer focusing the way it should…my regular eye doc made me some new contacts and new glasses and i was cool for about 8 months then i got blurred vision again in my right eye…not bad so i just dealt with it…about 18 months ago i changed docs because my regular guy couldn’t get a handle on it…my new doc says my retina is troublesome in my right eye and i will eventually need surgery…i also have stage 2 and 3 cataracts in both eyes…

i am putting off both because right now i see well enough to drive and i don’t stress about a lot of stuff…that is what they made tequila for…

i plan to start taking coconut oil and ginger as both have cataract counter agents and help to dissolve them….

good luck with your eyes man…

Sorry, dude. I been lucky there. I just got back foot and back troubles. With any luck, you’ll improve. I certainly hope so.

I took about three weeks off.Your best thing to do right now is to relax.Stress seems to make these things much worse and in my case may have actually caused the problem. It took about 3 months for my eye to get back to normal and has been OK since.I have been told that it may happen again but knowing whats happening if there is a second time will keep the trauma(or drama as my wife says) down.Good luck to you and I hope you have a speedy recovery.-Rick

This. It hasn’t happened to me but a guy I worked with did and his sight was safely restored via laser surgery. I do wish you all the best. It has to be scary as hell to go through.
