HARNDS ck6015 viper, is really a good knife?
Please put your opinions/reviews about this model of a new brand.

And for the price is there a better knife in fasttech? i like the navy k631 but not with the mix blade (ps).

I cleaned it, polished the washer surfaces, lubed it with nanotechnological oil and skeletonized it. Perfect size for my taste. Came sharp. No blade play, early but solid locking. Clip is a lowrider, gotta love that. Flat ground blade. Relatively good grind. Handle feels and looks good, not too slick but not too coarse either. I really like this blade. Love the simple and clean lines and ergonomics. 9cr18mov is a lovely steel imo. Would have loved Phosphor Bronze washers but they are teflon. Really smooth blade action though. Flies open when you flick the disc with your thumb. Really good detent. I really recommend this blade. For 15$ it’s a solid user.

Thanks for responses.

And this ck6015 or the navy k631ps serrated :frowning: (there isn’t the k631)? Both are full flat grind.
But the navy steel i read it’s the worst of the “good” chinese brands and with irregular fit and finish…

I found that this and the bigger brother the CK7006 Blazer were the first knives for a long time that I was happy to leave as they were. I must have got a different batch of stinky oil as mine smelled of oil  both are great knives for the money I think.
That stripped down view looks so clean, I may have to strip mine now, I have some phosphor bronze that will fit, they fit all the large Enlans so should fit these. Thanks for your views Horst.

I’ve been looking at the Navy K632 for a while, I really want to try the Compression Lock without paying £110, ~ $180 for a Spyderco Yojimbo 2 or Paramilitary 2.
The patchy Navy quality control has stopped me so far.

The cheap Navy knives are a lottery game. I have ordered 7-8 K507 and 4 aren't in perefect shape. 2 have small scratches on the blade or the handle, one has some problems with the lock and one have problems with the opening (not smooth). I try to fix it with the pivot screw, but the material isn't good and get "round" easily and it has also bladeplay. The quality problems of the K507 is the reason, why exduct stopped selling it a few months ago.

I also ordered 3x K631 which are fine (one has 2 small scratches on the blade). A friend has two K627 and like these.

In a 3 weeks I can tell you, which I like more (the K631 or the CK6015).

Edit: Cheap Navy: Round about $10, the Navys for $20+ have a good quality.
The $10 quality of Enlan/Bee and SRM is better as the $10 Navys.

No Navy for me then, I don’t mind stripping and fettling a knife that’s a cheap one but the Navy knives aren’t what I’d call cheap when compared to the competition.

I’ve got a K631 on order also from sbc. Takes forever to get here but it’s on the way.
My Cara Cara 2 is what inspired me to give it a try. I need a backup.

Speaking of things vaguely Spyderco

These are in the 2014 catalogue, the one with the sawblade interests me.

Owned the Navy 628 before I gave it away. I think that was the model—it’s the Native clone. It was a great knife other than the lockup sucked and I’m not good at taking them apart. It felt really gritty. Horrible feel. But at least it made me want to buy a real Native, which I’m very happy with.

I have a Navy CUI keychain multitool—the Atwood knockoff— and it’s fricken awesome. The machining is superb. It seemed a little pricey on Exduct when I bought it about a year ago, but it’s nowhere near what the real Atwood costs and I still haven’t found anything comparable for the money. It has all the built in metric wrenches and when I tested it, I was actually able to use it as a functioning box wrench on several 10 mm and 12 mm nuts.

debating about this knife how does the blade stack up to say 440c ss?will it hold its edge?I ve seen youtube videos where everyone is impressed by its factory edge i qm just curious about blade material any input?

Havent used my viper that much yet but it seems to be quite comparable to 440c. But this is just my thoughts for using it a bit. Will know more when it gets used more. Getting a lot of pocket time.

I have a K631 and it has been flawless. QC lottery was good to me with that one. Cant say much about the edge holding because I convexed it. Seems to work really good with the convexed grind.

A harnds viper have been ordered!

Just received K631. Stiffest knife out of the box to date for me. Grating sounds when opening… |( Wanted to take it down but it arrived to me with a single stripped/ rounded screw in the scales….SOB! |(

Opens nicer after oil and a good 1000+ opening and closings. |(

The Cara Cara 2 is a Cadilac compared to the 631. THIS 631 has the STIFFEST lock spring/bar I’ve ever encountered. There is no need for a spring that heavy. The Cara Cara 2 opens like SILK and it’s lockbar is EASY on the fingers.

The 631 has one bronze washer that I can see, but can’t see the one on other side.

I WILL disassemble and smooth things up but will have to deal with that damned stripped screw that came right out of the box.

I’ll fix it….but Would not buy NAVY again. For the best part of $19 I dunno… YMMV.

Sorry to hear, my K631 was perfect out of the box, the spring was a bit powerful you’re right on that but it was smooth for me after oiling. I’m wondering if maybe yours came without a second washer? Is the second washer missing on the same side as the stripped screw? Maybe there was a fault with it and due to poor QC it got through. :frowning:

OK…With a flashlight and a good pair of magnifying lenses I was able to see the other washer. (my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be) So both washers are in there.

You would think Navy could spend a few pennys more and use some DECENT quality screws. They are JUNK.

Obviously, I need to disassemble and polish up the washers and contacts.

It opens good now, but it could be much smoother.

Wishing I had a less stiffer spring.

I’ll make do.

Sorry, my bad. I should have clarified this is a “lock-back” not a liner lock.

My K631 has a good lock too. The lockbar is stiff but not too stiff. Dont have any problems when disengaging the lock. Blade opening was and is still buttery smooth without any play on blade. Navys always has been a QC-lottery, hope they would tighten their QC. I love my K631 but havent bought any other Navy because the fear of getting a lemon.

I contacted the ebay vendor from China about the stripped screw. Couldn’t believe he responded within 5 minutes and on a SUNDAY even.

He agreed to send me “new screws” and even asked me if it was in the handle. I replied that it was and that all of them appeared cheap to me.

I remember reading on the site that they requested any problems to please address before leaving feedback. So I guess it’s a common complaint about those cheap screws and or any other problem a knife may have with China QC. :frowning:

Sorry to have gotten sidetracked. Now back on Topic.

The Viper:

I read and have seen video of two cases of the Viper having terrible off centered blades. I hope it was just a fluke of sorts.

What’s everyones experience thus far on QC issues?

I opened a ticket at FastTech inquiring whether they could check Viper for blade centering before shipment to avoid unnecessary return….dunno…waiting to hear from them.

I had little interest in the Viper until I saw it on youtube video. Nice.
