Help me pick my next light

Ok I can’t make up my mind on my christmas present for daddy.

I am between the UltraFire XL-5UZ 6 x CREE XM-L U2 or the UltraFire/TrustFire T90 (SST 90) Both use 3×26650. have 3 new kingkong 26650 without a job Party . I am leaning towards the T90 SST 90 as my next throw light BUT the UF XL-5UZ looks like a good step up from the SRK in the same respect. Help me out guys & gals!

If you like to mod or would like to give it a try the T90 is simply amazing with a few alterations. Pop in a de-domed XM-L2 on a noctigon and use a file to make the bottom of the reflector bigger and it’s unreal.

If you don’t like modding and are looking for a flooder then go for the 6x.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

I just finished with a Trustfire X6 copy, replacing the SST-90 with a MT-G2. I love the look and form factor of the light.

That said, using the stock SST-90 is going to suuuuuuuuuuck down the batteries if you want the maximum output. Replacing the stock emitter with a MT-G2 will get you ~ 2200 lumens out the front, but be aware that it is relatively floody for the size of the reflector. Yes it’s a 80mm reflector but the emitter looks to have about 4x the surface area of a XM-L. So basically, imagine a good C8, but with a little more than double the output.

My mother said that it’s like a locomotive headlight…and yeah, it is. 30W at the emitter. Think about that.

Yes I do Like to mod, nothing major other than changing drivers, reflowing LED’s & stars. I’m good with a soldering iron Smile I have not found any reviews of the UltraFire XL-5UZ so I think I will go with the T90
