figures

awesome new zoomie, not easily available

i’ll be ordering 2 in a group buy or from the usual vendors….

could we see the pill?

I so strongly prefer zoomies for a camping light that I’ll probably pay someone to make 2 copper pills for this if it is as good as it seems.

is the extension exactly the same as the body tube (interchangeable)?

it had been awhile since I looked at the tabao pics Smile

if everyone reading this thread requests it from fasttech, problem solved!

I don’t think you will be happy with the MT-G2 beam with an aspheric lens. I have tried a few different lenses on MT-G2’s and never really found one I liked at all.

I do like zoomies and if I could pick this one up cheap enough I would.

What is it you didn’t like exactly? Beam collimation, output? You have much more experience in anything like this I’m glad for your input/advice Smile

I do like this even as a zoomie too, especially for around $30, with a reflector/large head and using 1-2 26650s anyways though. I just figured the amount of metal for heat sink, head size, reflector and rare 2×26650 would be perfect for MT-G2. If not that I’m sure modders would like it to increase power to an XML2.

I always have hope with a zoomie, then I get it and am disappointed, say I’m not going to buy a zoomie again, then later get tempted with another cheap zoomie…

Hey what’s up man? Long time to chat.

What I don’t like about it is that you get this big ugly honey cone shaped die pattern and still it doesn’t throw worth a darn. I was actually going to buy a similar zoomie and put one in because I like zoomies a lot. But after seeing what they do I was not impressed at all. Plus you lose so many lumens with a zoomie that it’s kind of a waste.

If it has good heatsinking I would put a de-domed XM-L2 and push it around 6 amps or so. If the heatsinking isn’t that great then I would use a XP-G2 de-domed and just go for a really great throw and enough flood to be a nice walking light.

I’m a junky, I mod lights so I can sell lights so I can buy more light to mod so I can sell lights to buy more lights to mod.

I kind of agree with that mtg2 zoomie assessment

i wouldn’t mind having one – it would have a massive amount of flood – great for blanketing an area with a nice tint…and no hotspot. that tripod mount and a gorillapod could make it a handy work or car camping light. zooming out would be for when you want to see something further out – you lose a ton of lumens…which is a waste of power…but if that’s occassional/short use, it is at least handier than carrying a second light.

the reason i won’t have one, comes down to cost. $70 is better spent elsewhere…and xml can flood well, and throw great.

in fact, i’m quite sure i’d use dedomed xml

You guys are probably right, I have not seen an MT-G2 zoomie. Love the tint and output though, and with the extra lumens it creates could be worth it even with the problems you outline, but probably not for the price. Still, I like this light and want one at around $37, filled out the fast tech request form too.

Heya, yeah I kinda took a break from the site for a while. Not from using my lights though, just from reading and drooling over more Smile

I have a couple of 7g5v2 (reflector head and 67mm? aspheric lens head) and I have 3 pills, sst-90 green, xml2 dedomed and mtg2

mtg2 is great with the reflector. it is kind of cool to play with the mtg2 and aspheric…(outside, the waffle pattern isn’t as noticeable, especially if you slightly defocus), but I don’t have any real use for it…

I’ve tried it both on one cell and two cells and I didn’t notice a difference. I’ll pull out my DSLR light meter and see what it says Smile

EDIT: Confirmed. My DSLR light meter found 1% or less difference in brightness between 1 cell and 2 cell (measured in the very center of the hotspot when on full flood).

Am I crazy for wanting at least one so I can have one stock…and then another with an MT-G2 in it? For science?

Well then in that case, I suppose I must order at least one for now!

The best thing you can do is submit the Taobao link to FastTech and hope they add it to their product catalog.

I think I would feel more comfortable spending the money with YoyBuy if they took paypal. Oddly enough, their American dropship website (basically the reverse of YoyBuy) does take PayPal.

From FT Support:

after suggesting the flashlight:

“Hi rollinstone157,

Thanks for your valued advice, we have added it to our to-do list and will let you know when we get it stocked.”

So, if you want it…submit them the taobao link.

They said that about the MT-G2's I suggested they add, around a year ago.
No progress yet.

I just realized that this light is now available from vendors. GearBest has it here.

I just noticed this on Gearbest today, now I am thinking of swapping in the aspheric from the UF-T20 into this and figuring out a way to limit the sliding mechanism…then upgrading the driver to maybe 6a with a Xml-2 and this would be the perfect zooming light.

A lot of work on a pricey light…if only this existed already.

Sucks it doesn’t come with the double battery tube, this light is amazing when powered by two 26650 King Kongs Smile I used this light almost exclusively during the last power outage (8 hours). Can be run on its highest setting without overheating, zoom feature is handy (used it on flood most of the time), feels perfectly balanced and great in the hand (with the double battery tube). Everyone kept picking this light over the SRK and other lights that were available (during the power outage).

Yep. Hope to see that eventually.
