Markings on SanRenMu Blades

Recently I’ve been noticing some hew markings on SanRenMu knife blades - A triangle followed by a number and I wondered what it meant.
I emailed SanRenMu about this and got this reply.

Dear 8steve88,

Thanks for contacting us. The triangle means 2013, number 11means November.

In conclusion, this knife comes into market in Nov of 2013.

Something as simple as that.
If you don’t ask you don’t find out.

It’s amazing what you can find out just by asking…! Good job!

Nice.

A strange knife but very original. Wich is your opinion about it Steve?

Like zippo date code. Since 2001, code is easier.

Triangle for 2013, maybe a quadrat for 2014.

I’ve been eyeing-up the Real Steel range, the T series and in particular the T98, although the T3000 is damned nice.
So when I saw that FastTech stocked the SanRenMu 7046LTE-LKR I ordered one. $12.13 and a lot of knife for the money.
This is the baby brother of the Real Steel T98, smaller all round and with 8Cr13MoV steel instead of Sandvik 12C27 but both designed by Gang Liang.
Both share features - glass breaker, bottle opener and 4mm + 6mm + 8mm + 10mm hexagon nut tool.

When I opened the blister pack I thought “What the hell have you done, you hate chisel grinds” but I was determined not to let that cloud my judgement. I use my knives a lot and one of the things that they must be able to do is push cut 550 paracord easily, it didn’t look good for the straight bade edge as it’s usually blades with a bit of belly in them that work best. I don’t want to wear the sharp tanto angle between edge and front so I tried with just the front and it cut straight through with hardly any effort, I tried all the cutting edges and they are all razor sharp and cut very, very well.

The blade opens easily and smoothly using the modified thumb disc but it won’t flick open - yet. It locks up with the usual SanRenMu click and has no blade play in any direction. The knife feels comfortable and well balanced in the hand even after an hour of working with 550 paracord, 1/2” cord, leather cord and thin wire it has stayed sharp enough not to need even a touch-up.
.
All the tools work well within their limitations although I haven’t tried the glass breaker yet. The pocket clip is swappable for tip-up or tip-down carry. The lanyard holes are joined by a tube, less wear and tear on your lanyard and adds to the overall build quality.
The edges should be easy to sharpen as they are all straight edges and only one side to work on. I’m still not a great fan of chisel ground blades but this one works very well.
I think it looks a lot less threatening to Non Knife People, you explain it away as a Swiss army knife but different. Although that could really refer more to the T3000.
.
It is very refreshing that the Chinese can come out with new designs like these. Different from anything that I’ve seen, the nearest being the CRKT Razel folder. Being a folding chisel, however it takes the concept and makes it useful for more tasks.

I like this SanRenMu a lot and will buy the Real Steel T98 eventually but now I’ve seen it I really want that T3000

You’re probably right.

Interesting Steve, curious knife, i know it years ago i think.
And the harnds blazer like you too true? Wich tasks you do with the blazer sue to its size and its weight of 220 gr?

The Blazer gets used around the house like all my knives, sometimes I’ll say to myself “I’ll use only my Enlan M08 today and see how it copes”. To be honest the only really hard use that I have I’ll use my Hultafors Heavy duty.

The Blazer gets used as any knife that I have, I make a lot of 550 Paracord items, lanyards mostly and you can’t drag a blade to cut a length of cord in the middle of a bracelet so it’s important to be able to push cut through whatever material that I’m using, 550 paracord 3/8” ~ 9.5mm polypropylene rope, 1/4” ~ 6mm leather thong strips, electrical cable, anything that I’ve got on the go at the time. It’s very important to me to have a very sharp blade so 8Cr13MoV, 440C and 9Cr18MoV are my preferred steels. They may dull quicker but they sharpen a lot easier as well.
I use this tying and sharpening to try to stop the arthritis in my hands from getting worse, years of cold wet winters on a M/C take their toll.
I can’t carry most of my knives in public but sometimes I “forget” that they’re in my pocket.
I can tell you that the size of the Blazer helps as my hands are on the large side and the grip is good for cutting and slicing the odd bit of cheese and onions for a snack.

I am sorry about your arthritis. And what is a “m/c”?.
I have some kitchen knives that they get dull in 2 or 3 days, soft steels do not like me very much but i am sure that these chinese steel must be better.
The heat treatment i think is almost more important than the type of steel, well in some ways. Even the edge retention of ganzo/enlan/srm/navy and so are not the same having almost the same steel…

Quote Xatu: ” And what is a “m/c”?.“

“m/c” = motorcycle

Ok, thanks!.

Bang on there Streamer.
@ xatu The arthritis is a pain, literally, but I enjoyed getting it, I’m very much into MotorCycles and have been since I was 15 or so, back in the mists of time in the last century
I’d not swap the pain for the memories any day!

I understand you. Sometimes happiness is better than pain.
