Courui big head mod finished.

I bought this Courui big head flashlight a while back from Kaidomain. It came quick enough and the build quality is great. Very nice light.

I put this driver in, it’s a 5amp regulated driver with dimming.

It is powering an XP-G2 de-domed emitter on a 20mm sinkpad. To make this work I needed to file out a part of the head so that the driver would fit. I used the existing driver as a contact board. The battery carrier was changed over to series. The reflector bottom was filed out so that the XP-G2 could focus properly. It’s hitting 300kcd with a very nice even flood.

The only thing I am dissapointed with is the dimming on the driver. It’s too fast to get a really good lock on your desired setting. However, the High, medium and low are very nicely spaced so I’m mostly using that.

Sounds good 18sixfifty. Do you have any pictures of your driver installation?

Sorry no pics. I just took a large crescent shaped file and worked away until I made enough space for the LCK driver and then slaved the two together putting the original driver back in place (after wiping it clean of components). On top of the driver I put one solder blob for a positive battery pole. Opposite of that I put down JB weld to act as an insulator and adhesive and put two battery contacts that I stole out of battery boxes I have laying around. Those two were then wired together.

So it’s positive coming off the board into the battery carrier. Then negative to positive at the tailcap. Negative back down to the board, Positive at the board then negative at the tailcap and traveling through the flashlight back to the board. 12 volts.

Have they changed the UI on that driver? The one I have doesn't have modes, just ramping via a long press. Short press just turns on/off.

They must have changed it. I contacted them about it and am waiting on a reply.

If you press-n-hold, does it keep ramping or does it stop at the top & bottom? That's what I hate about the otherwise neat little UF-T50 - it's impossible to release the button at either the dimmest or brightest levels as it just keeps on going up-down-up-down with no pause at either end (in fact it seems to speed up the closer you get to the end). The version of the LD-36 I got STOPS! at the top/bottom no matter how long you hold the button, you have to release and do another long press to get it to ramp the other direction.

Daggum...that would have been SWEET to have pics of!

It doesn’t stop and it’s very hard to hit it in the right spots. I have a ramping crelant that does stop and I like that much better. (free for a review from lightscastle) I ended up trading my UF-T50 to Nitro. I should have modded that one too but I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I’m actually wondering if something is wrong with this driver that’s why I contacted them. The specs still say exactly what yours is. I had another one from them and it was just like you said. I had tried it in a 3x but ended up messing it up by messing around with the “dale” resistor. Next time I place an order with Mouser I’m going to pick up a couple of those dale resistors and fix it up and play around with it some more.

I’m getting lazy I guess. I don’t even post most of the mods I do anymore but a few people where showing their various mods for this model. It’s a really nice light. Very comfortable to hold and it has a great reflector.

The resistors are nothing special, any 2512-size sense resistors will work.

Cool thanks for letting me know.

I’d like to see a picture of your battery conversion.
