Back in the olden days of incandescents there were some 6V lights that came with a 4D carrier that would fit in the same way as those clunky lantern batteries. Rummage sales?

What about 18650s in a battery holder?
Or AAs in a battery holder?

What kind of LEDs does this thing have?

I tried modding an old 6V lantern once. I used AA Nimhs in a 4AA battery holder like this, secured it with double stick velcro strips, and connected it by soldering a 9V snap connector like this to the switch.

The mod cost less than buying a 4D adapter or any other ready made kit for making a 6V lantern usable with rechargeables.

It was a fun project, I learned from it, but I wouldn’t do it again. Too much work for not enough gain.

I went looking for them, was curious.

If in the US, Walmart has a Rayovac version for under $5. online http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rayovac-6V-Lantern-Battery-Adapter/22086120

For us Aussies and our Dolphins, http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PH9224 , also under $5, out of stock though

http://users.tpg.com.au/users/p8king/rezap.htm , similar money, about half way through the table near the top.
