Manafont UF 5mode XM-L dropin

This dropin is insane bright! All of my other UF 3 modes give between 3500 and 3800 lux inside the sphere. This thing gives 4650! These dropins are directly driven on high so I switched batteries and got the same results. I had four fully charged 18650 flames and a SF. Every combination gave the same results. I tested lux @ one yard and all three of the 3 mode droins gave between 9450 lux and 9620 lux. The 5 mode gave 13,500 lux.

The dropin came with both SMO and OP reflectors. I cant get the OP to screw on. With the SMO there is a yellow spot in the center against a white wall but thats one of those things that really dont matter to me. You would never notice it in any other circumstance.

I dont know how to explain the huge difference(according to the numbers) in brightness. I have not had it out at night yet. In the garage I can tell its brighter by a little bit, my son says its a lot brighter.

Funny thing is I bought this dropin because I was hoping that the 650 lumen claim was correct. I figured that if it really was 650 lumen then it must be pretty well regulated instead of direct.

How much higher is the current?

The pills that UF used for all these xml p60's are kinda crappy in that they're different threads so no other reflectors fit.

I can’t report on the current because my DMM sucks at amp readings

Even relatively?

I just use the cheap (as in often free) meter from Harbor Freight even when I have Fluke/bench ones, and it works pretty well.

It sounds like the new UF drop in that DX is selling, can you post some pictures. I just got the new one from DX and it was brighter then the 3 mode ones I got from Manafont and the strobe at 4+ amps is insanity.

Ok, I can make relative measurements. 3mode 2.78A and 5mode 3.05A. Remember these are relative measurements and not actual measurements. That is using the harbor freight DMM. also, same battery/same light

To get a bearing on just how good/bad the $4 (w/ backlight) HF meter is, I compared it to a mediocre Metex (Fluke not here). On my MF 3mode (shouldn't matter which since it's all DD) dropin w/ low resistance unprotected Sanyo I get 3.9A on HF, ~3.9A (jumps around a bit) on Metex (and 4.2A if I play with the leads on the contacts a bit). On the supposedly good DX probes (10A CATIII, blah blah) on the Metex I get only 3.5A, but I'm not sure about the contact w/ the meter on those. I kind of doubt the switch in the cheap skyray host is up to 4A anyway.

Which goes to show as least it's not too bad for free if you go on the right day.

That's embarassing ... friends don't let friends use 3$ multimeters .

i'm ashamed for you :~
