14500 batteries in parallel

Ok, here’s what the plan is…

I have this 2D maglite I plan on modding with a SST-90 I have lying around. The vF of the led is going to be on the upwards side of 3 volts when driven at 9 amps. Any suggestions for batteries? I’m not too keen on hacking up the body, making it shorter to accommodate a 18650 or 26650 so what are my options?

I’ve kind of decided I probably would get 2 adaptors like this and modify together so 6 of the 14500s would be in parallel config. That way I am still above my forward voltage. I plan to use nanjig drivers set up with a master- slave config like Old-Lumens did.

Will there be a problem running all those batteries in parallel? I really would just like to use NIMH D cells but the voltage is too low.

Thanks in advance.

Should be fine.

Would be absolutely fine

The SRK run’s on 4-18650’s in parallel, this just puts the 14500’s in a nice little carry package…remember the driver for a 2D has to support 8+VDC

I have a 18vdc toolkit light that burned out the bulb…found a replacement for it…also works very well in the 4C maglights

These would work as a straight drop in (with minimal mod)

just make sure you get the right voltage

These went in the 18vdc, still ALOT of light

Having some second thoughts about this… I tested my sst-90 last night and at 5 amps the forward voltage was right 3.9 volts. At 9 amps, the vf is probably going to be something like 4.2 volts. I’m not sure that’s going to work given a li-on cell puts out approx. the same voltage and only when fully charged.

I also have an MT-G2 I might use instead, but with the 14500s in 3 parallel 2 series config. Then comes the headache of finding a proper driver…. and BTW whatever led I used will be direct bonded to either a copper mpcb or a custom copper slug.

Any opinions?
