*CLOSED* NIMH AA/AAA Charger recommendation

Hi guys. I know there are 7473457574 topics on AA/AAA chargers. But I’ve not been ‘in’ the loop for like 3 months and things can change fast here

I basically need a NIMH charger in the $20-25 ballpark. My cheap $5 just crapped on me and went in fumes after like 2 years of near daily use. It was great but the main problem was the slow 100-200 MAH charge rate.

I need something with the following specs:

- 4 (preferred) or 2 independent bays. 2 bays will do if I can get something of a better quality.

- Smart charger with proper termination and stuffs.

- Reasonably fast charge speed (less than 6 hours on 4 cells)

  • OPTIONAL: LCD to see voltage :p, Voltage charge current adjuster.

I know there is the Nitecore charger that ‘fits’ the bill but some people have reported issues on it.
Thanks for helping

the ikea charger is a smart one, but while i call it too high a charge rate many here say high charge rates are good.

Can you wait a couple weeks? The Nitecore D4 may be released this month. MAP is $35. Hopefully our favorite vendors can knock a lot off of that price, but $35 is a good price for all that charger offers if it actually charges well.

Shan SH-168DLCD charger from FastTech is still a good budget option. It has different current depending on size and quantity and has discharge too.

the maha 9000 seems to go on sale for $30 every now and then, i haven’t been following it so no idea if its on sale or going to be soon

I have had a few nimh chargers, but there was always something wrong with them (overheating batteries, or charging too slow, only 2/4 batteries, not 1/3…).

And then i decided to buy the more expensive Maha MH-C9000, i have it for about 3 years now, and it is really worth the money.
The total cost of the cheal chargers i had before was much higher than what i payed for the Maha, and none of the cheap chargers was as good as the Maha…

Spend a little more for the Maha, you won’t regret it.

I’ve a few chargers.

- Used and still use a Akkutrainer AT3 for over 9 or 10 years; but was a little bit “slow” due the lower charge rate

  • Sanyo MQR06

Last year I bought a BM200 (with 20.000 mAh; reminder I need these adapters) and a BM110 (just because it was a real bargain for ~13$ after discount + shipping)
Thought about the MH C9000. Decided to take the BM200. Price for the MH here is 65€/90$, or online for over 50€/65$.

Pro’s/Cons for the MH C9000 (personal preferences)

  • higher charge rate (I personally don’t need 2Ah.)
If so, the MH doesn’t charge the batteries full. The batteries need to stay in the charger for 1 or 2 more hours after “full” to be fully charged.
    Even a BC700 with 700mAh isn’t that much slower.
  • break-in feature

- “Night Light feature” due lack of a timer to turn of the LCD back-light

  • more “configuration” (pressing button) required, even if I only a change the charge rate instated to the default rate at 1Ah.
IIRC in a blackout / power outage or an the charger changes back to default: Charge @ 1Ah

For the price … Sanyo MQR06 (may not available in NAM), which most comes with 4 Eneloops AA, AAA or XX.

or the usual Suspects for a bit more:
Technoline / LaCrosse BC700 (LC has now a RS-720)
Opus BM110 / Accucell iQ328

@ Bort: Where can I find the C9000 for around 30$? Maybe I’ll take one if the shipping costs will be reasonable.

I’ve seen it posted on BLF a few times, on sale i’ve seen it at that price but its not a regular price anywhere, i think amazon and newegg have had it at the $30 mark a few times

I use the BC700, happy with it so far, its cheap, you have test, discharge and refresh modes, selectable charge current of 700, 500 and 200, discharge a bit slower )half the charge currents)
But if you can find the MAHA 9000 for 30$, it is a better option (i dint see it that cheap)

I won’t get a maha charger shipped to me for $30.

I’ve been watching to find one at that price for 2+ years. You are going to have to be very very patient to pick one up for $30.

I bought this one for $10 off snhoop or whatever it’s called, mine was an australian plug but it comes with an adapter and 4AA Blacktop cells. I love this thing to death since it can be charged via 12V cig and it can charge USB devices in USB mode.

I think this is the same one on amazon and this is the lowest price I can recall seeing it on over there.

You have missed it a few times then, there were a few threads posted on BLF since i joined

Thanks Bort.
May I’ve to watch out. I’m not in a hurry.
Wish I had a smaller 8 channel charger as well, but I’m fine right now.

@ MountainKing

I don’t know your location, but here is a BM110 (Accucell iQ328) for 30.80$ incl delivery (after that discount thingy 26.18$ delivered)

List

cef23au duracell

austrailian model so you need to use a easy to find or make 12 volt in the side

they are always cheap and the bonus is they come with 4 rechargables to boot

years ago they came with duraloops but I doubt you'll get that lucky ..normally under 20$

as low as 13$. has a usb on it too .it's a dang nice nimh 4 independent charger

input on the side is a 5 MM... center pos.

get a car cord for it too so you can charge it in auto boat etc ..

I bought this one on sale for ~$40, there's a thread somewhere here. Sooner or later you'll want some D cells.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331042777396

It says that when using the D cell adapters that it doesn’t measure internal resistance, what does that mean, how much of a loss is it it?

Here is the deal on the Tenergy D cells. Tenergy Centura LSD NiMH, 12D: $60, 24AA: $32 (newegg)

The resistance in the adapter from all the additional contact points is much greater than the typical internal resistance, making any measurement meaningless.

Darn.

Anybody have issues with this charger? Never bought off Aliexpress. I’ll check the specs. Any reviews out there?

Yesterday a burglar broke in neighbours house (which we did not know at this time). My wife heard a big sound of someone falling. She thought a burglar was in our yard and man I could not power all my flashlights to investigate.

Turned out a thief really broke into my neighbours yard and stole some items…Sucks. If I could, I’d kill those thieves…
