Features / Value: ★★★★★

Exact size and shape of two AA batteries. Tinydeal has at least 4 different styles of this lighter to suit your taste. The jet flame design is fairly windproof and the coil that heats to help make it windproof has a blob of copper on it that turns the flame a nice shade of green when it burns. The lighter arrives empty of fuel but fills easily and started immediately for me. One click is all I've ever needed to get it lit. Compact size fits easily into the key pocket in my jeans.

For the unique design and decent execution for the minuscule price of $2.43 I have to give it 5 stars for features and value.

Design / Build Quality: ★★★★

Build quality is pretty good for such an inexpensive lighter. Sure it's no Colibri but then again it doesn't cost $60 or more either. I will say that it's built as well or better than most other budget lighters I've had. The body, while plastic, fits the internals snugly and the cutouts for the controls and refilling on the bottom are perfectly aligned and centered. The lid, which is made of simple pot metal, fits well with very good alignment to the body and no gapping when closed. The lid snaps open and closed with authority due to a unique hinge spring design that uses a cammed compression spring instead of the usual torsion spring used in most lighters including Zippos. There is no play in the hinge when open or closed. It lights every time due to a typical piezo spark plunger switch.

The only damage my example has incurred is one any of this model will. The front edge of the lid, where it is closest to the flame, gets very hot when the lighter is run continuously for an extended time such as when lighting a lot of candles on a birthday cake. By the time your thumb is ready to blister form the heat transferred through the metal button, the front edge of the lid will also be feeling the heat and the decal that is on the lid will begin to discolor a little. Not badly, mind you, but just enough that I thought I'd mention it.

If left in your pocket with keys and coins the decals that decorate it will wear and peel around the edges. I do think that it will actually wear better than other lighters I've had with painted bodies. They always get scratched and marred where the plasticish decals on this will resist a lot of that. Keep it in the little key pocket of your jeans (where I always keep my lighters) and it should hold up very well.

For the price I have to give this baby 4 stars. It's not the best constructed lighter out there - far from it in fact, but it is better than any other lighter I've had in it's price range and even better than one or two I've had in the $10-$20 range. It's a novelty lighter but it's also one of the nicest.

Summary: ★★★★☆

A lot for your money and a great conversation piece for you flashaholics. If you carry a light with you most of the time and you carry a lighter too, what better way to state hobby than to carry a lighter that looks just like batteries. Probably wouldn't be too hard to have a custom designed decal made up to promote a club or a business. Xtar and Trustfire would do well to make it look like their batteries and give them out as promotions. For less than $2.5 this one is a no brainer. Fun to have just sitting on your desk or shelf with your flashlights. If you collect lighters than this one is a definite buy.

Hope you enjoyed the review!

Wow! Only 31 reads and not one comment. I don't think I'll be doing any more lighter reviews. :P

I used to get these kinds of lighters all the time only they cost $20-$30 at the time. Because of how they work we used to love them for starting camp fires. Great review, thanks for spending the time on it!

EDIT... I think i would be more likely to buy one if it said Ultrafire 4000 on it

Smoking kills. :)

Excellent review, Johnny :D I also collect lighters. Half of them are jet lighters. Bought a few Honest last month (haven't bought any before). Excellent build quality, and looks better made than this one you reviewed. And cost a few cents more. But still a good lighter for that price. Don't try to recharge it!

I agree, the Honest line is pretty nice. I have one or two of them. Also nice are the Jobon and the yabao lighter but they cost 3 times as much. I also collect novelty lighter and as a flashaholic this one is right up there as a must have.

I have refilled this one several times without any vapor lock or issues. It doesn't hold much. ;)

Or the trustfire flame design.

I think I'll pass on it, though... I don't have any use for a lighter. I keep a cheap one in the car if I ever have to light a campfire or such, that I've never used yet...

Links to "Honest" or other recommended lighters? Between this and the e-cigarettes I'm going to have to take up smoking.

I have to agree about the Honest lighters they are very high quality. I used to smoke but quite now I am addicted to the e-cigs.

I have these two models of Honest lighters. I had to buy a second one of these for my girlfriend because she kept stealing mine. This one is a very high quality jet the first one I got was black and the second one was brown comes with a cool carrying pouch.

I ordered one of these for the toolkit on my snowmobile, but it arrived with a broken locking mechanism that locks it in the on position DX sent me another one. The broken one gets used in the house for lighting candles, it holds an incredible amount of gas.

Classic Emco lighter

Excellent butane lighter!

Great Ronson style lighter. Better than the original.

Good jet lighter. This one I don't have yet but is highly rated.

Cool oil lighter. Very unusual.

Not really into lighters since I have no use for them, but nice review nonetheless. Those other older style lighters you linked are gorgeous.

btw, how do I refill a zippo? It seems to not hold very much fuel, and I always get it all over my hands and the lighter body.

Man, that large butane one looks like it's got enough fuel to do some damage. I wonder if you can soldier cree's with it. :D

How does a $10 zippo/imco compare in quality and functionality to these ones above (including the clone :))?

My 4 last lighters (and my first oil/Zippo lighter :D Always wanted one):

Honest Wind-proof Butane Jet Lighter

Jet 1300-C Butane Lighter with Clear Tank

Windproof Metal Oil Lighter (wrong name here, should be named "Wind and waterproof butane jet lighter" or smt like that)

Vintage Oil Lighter with Protective Steel Case

Amazing lighters for that price, all of them.

BTW, I don't smoke, and neither need all that flashlights I have, just like to collect them

You don't need to smoke to carry a magic fire box as part of your EDC. Fire is a useful tool like a knife or flashlight.

Yup, totally agreed ;)

Never go anywhere without a knife , a way to make fire , and a light .

You never know .

BTW, does anyone know where to get the right fuel/adapter for filling up the butane ones? I found a "1300C" one I got from DX a long time ago, which probably never got used because the nozzle on the butane canisters I have for a portable stove are slightly too big for the plug and just end up spilling fuel everywhere. Thanks.

Or lighting crack rocks. Jet lighters are very useful for that - more so than for setting fire to tobacco.

Thanks, I'll have to try that out.
