That hollow pill doesn’t look too bad, most of the area is on the outside of the circle anyway, I’d think.

Got my $2.94 Skywolfeye the other day, not too bad. Purpleish XP-E (?) knockoff. Got up to 0.84 A on a laptop pull.

Looks different, but the screw out pill and zoom remind me of SK68. Not a bad little light so far, if it holds up.

17mm driver, not sure about star, maybe 16-17mm. Doesn’t look like it has any heat control. I posted some photos on 18650 lights .

One of my $5 C8’s has arrived. Unknown emitter but throws like a XP-E. Bluer than I’d like but not purple. Body says Q5. Not bad, seems solid pill but haven’t taken apart.

Does your “C8” take 17mm driver and what size of LED it takes? 16mm, 18mm or 20mm? Is the pill solid?

I’m measuring 17mm on the driver and 19mm on the thing that screws in on top of the star, to hold it in place. So I’m guessing it would take 18mm star

If I pull that part off, I’m afraid that it won’t work, so I’m not sure if it has solid pill or not. It looks like it has one of those plastic circles that will get torn up if I pull off the thing holding the led. If you can tell me what to do, I am curious, though, if it has a solid pill.

The dark thing that screws over the star was about 19mm

Sorry, I checked it repeatedly, not sure if it’sthe site or me. If it doesn’t work later, I might have to retry later.

Basically you have the led+star in the pill. Then there is a piece that screws in and holds the star, and has a hole for the led. That piece is about 19mm, so I think you should be able to use 18mm star.

The easiest thing to do is to unscrew the cover out. I don’t see anything can go wrong.

BTW if the photo site works, you should be able to attach the photos to your post, not just the link.

Hi, thanks for reminding me.
I didn’t read the “ebay” word on the title/subject.

I received the one order from here. It looks like the same as yours. The good thing about this C8 is that it takes standard C8 pills. It can serve as a good cheap C8 host.

Besides the knurling on the head, and i suspect a little smaller reflector & only 1 mode driver, it looks very similar.

I am betting they are using the same pill design, so if they are crap i hope to be able to reuse the pill for my i3S.

Got mine in and it is an OK little light for $4 shipped. Seen much worse. Original tint has bluish color, but much whiter than I would have expected. Reflowed a Nichia 219A from FastTech onto the aluminum board and it makes for a nice Warm White little light… a good improvement for less than $1 with the new LED. The pill is hollow, it is the middle section and the driver and LED are press fit from their respective sides. There is plenty of wire to pry the LED out and desolder it for reflow. If I get in any blank noctigons, I may file one down to this diameter, but the stock one is not running hot at all. The driver is one mode, but looks pretty good and runs no problem on a 3.2V LiFePO4 AAA with a noticeable improvement in brightness… Good find cajampa!

Plastic lens, but Hugsby XP1 lens fits, needs an Oring up front too…

Nice thanks for the update Smile

Good idea to use the Hugsby XP1 lens, i have two broken mod casualties Wink here that gladly will donate some parts when i get mine.

Do you have any recommendation for the best LiFePO4 AAA? Unfortunately HKJ dosen’t test much LiFePO4 so i have no idea what to get.

And get some 10mm sinpads instead of noctigons, those are dropins on most small lights like these.

I have the Soshine ones from FastTech, they seem to be good, I do not know if they are the best though.

The 10mm sinkpads are too small for these, there is only a shelf and they would need to be about 2-3mm wider, thus the filing down of the 16mm… Either way, good little light, even stock, for the money…

Correction, THESE are the LiFePO4 10440’s

Aha good point, i didn’t think about the shelf, but you right then starting from 16mm is the only way.

EDIT
I will probably pick up some of those Soshine cells next time i order from fasttech, do you know any small cheap good chargers for them? I can use my opus but i am thinking for gifting.

No, that is the only problem, for LiFePO4’s there are no good small cheap chargers… Perhaps the Nitecore D2? Or the Xtar WP2H

I updated the post above, the first ones I linked were the 3.7V, I have the second ones, the 3.2V

That is to bad, i will search for one.

For 4.2v 10440 we have the cheap and excellent Xstar MC0, i hope one for LiFePO4 will turn up.

Mine has a gap in the key chain eye, so they gave me a full refund.

I just ordered one of these for US $3.44. I figured that a Nichia upgrade might be all this needs.

It looks kinda like a 14500 version of the Sharp Eagle ZQ-SH-05

Or a SingFire SF-361 clone.

Once you receive it, can you let us know if it takes 17mm driver or 14mm driver? Thanks.

Assuming I have the seller right, and I’m pretty sure I do, 4-cn922 sent me one with an lb emitter, but solid pill, driver seems decent, switch seems nicer than others, too. Nicely finished c8.

I bought two C8s from securityingstore (http://www.ebay.com/itm/331455918001?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPage...). The best thing is that they take the standard UF brass pill, e.g., the one sell by FT. It will make a very good host for the cost (<$5).
I think they are the same as yours.

Thought that TomTop’s 18650 might turn in the vein of Hugsby’s, alas it did not, waste of money, made pictures of it, in short – plastic reflector, dirty lens, two bright blue LED’s on each side of the switch, didnt try out charging feature(bought it for slightly above 5$ with car and wall charger, without them it costs below 5$), battery tube fits my red Convoy S2+ and cheap C8 with deep reflector, came with pocket clip which scratches light easily, scratched my Convoy too, has rust to it, took it apart, surprise – LB star with probably fake XP-E, sits on a shelf.

I’ve been reading this forum quite a bit today and joined. I’m curious, I read that as of earlier this year the LB knock off emitter lights began to severely outnumber the amount of genuine cree (and sometimes possibly rejected cree emitters) on the $5-10 lights on Ebay / Aliexpress. Is it pretty much impossible to find actual Cree flashlights now in this price tier? So far it’s been like looking for a needle in the haystack, some Ebay listings it’s easy to tell, most it isn’t since the Ebay sellers use fake stock photos of the light in use. Note that I’m primarily looking at 18650 battery flashlights.

Look into buying a Convoy (S series/C8). A bit more than $10, but vastly superior in every other aspect. No worrying about fake emitters.
