3xMT-G2 TR-J19 90W

I was between BTU Shocker & Trustfire TR-J19 for this mod. Shocker needed lathe work to fit the 25mm 7*XM-L driver with low voltage protection Kaidomain / Lightmalls, so TR-J19 was my choice.
Had to sand one mm or more, Noctigons’ one side, to fit both 3. I found very usefull to use TR-J19 stock insulation disc when centering the MT-G2s.
After AA dried, I removed the discs and I do not use any, only Kapton tape.
The results are 7.5amps tailcap reading, so with 80% efficiency, around 24w per led (5amps??? 4amps), with INRs 18650 25r
I have ordered some KK 26650s.

Beamshots suck, I will try for better ones;-)

TR-J19 & K40 dedomed+resistor modded

Looks like a powerful build to me !
Does the MT-G2 domes fit in the stock reflectors?

Your beam shots are impressive.

btw:
nice Seamaster :wink:

Wow… now THAT is a wall of light! :crown:

Very nice! I always wanted to see beautiful tint from triple mt-g2 in action :slight_smile:
I wish you best luck with this driver. You’l need it :~
Btw mt-g2 at 5A is around 35W.

Please elaborate…

The domes do fit in the reflector.
A Seamaster owner too?

what a Light! 8)

According to djozzs chart mt-g2 at 5A requires 6.8V
P=U * I
P=6.8 * 5
P=34W

You are correct, 4amps is the number.
I believe this driver is more efficient than 80% I have calculated.

Nice.

Have a person in the photos for size reference, this must be one awesome wall of light.

I wonder if use of that monster is banned during a total fire ban…

Great work zeremefico.

You saved me a lot of trouble. I have a TR-J19 in front of me, and was about to run some tests to see if that driver would run 3 x MT-G2. Beware though, as these drivers known for having a short life span. My last one died after twenty minutes. I'm still experimenting with them though.

As far as I know, you're the first to try them with triple MT-G2. I don't know which setup puts more strain on the driver, 3 x MTG or 5 x XML. Please keep us informed on your drivers continued performance and lifespan. I have a few 7x and 9x drivers waiting to be installed, and will be following this build. So far I have found the 5 x version to be the most stable (running XML/XML2).

Good luck. Great build. We're all watching.

The MT-G2's look very pretty in that triple reflector. Very nice build! I hope that the driver/heatsinking is keeping up, because it looks like a very useful flashlight.

Sweet as usual zeremefico. I don't have a J19, but all my other TR-multi-emitters don't seem will connected thermally. Did you do anything to improve the heat path from the pill/reflector to the body?

Which one works best depends on how many of what kind of LEDs you have connected. Running these boost drivers hard up against their max voltage limit is what kills them. If the driver can't put out enough voltage for the LEDs to hit the driver's current limit, they get really unhappy real quick. It's like trying to drive 80mph in first gear.

It's probably best to ignore the '5x/7x/9x' label they slap on, and instead go by the stated max voltage for each one, and compare that to the expected max voltage of your particular string of LEDs. The right driver is one that can safely put out enough voltage for your intended setup.

According to my maths, the 7xT6 version of the driver (the very same I use), delivers 3 more volts to my setup {23-20}. I think it is ideal.
Don’t forget that this driver is designed for XML, not XML2. 7 times the extra voltage of L2, can push the driver hard.
This is a replacement driver, first one died in a j12.
I didn’t improve the heatsink, the truth is that it gets too hot in a few minutes. Shocketr would be better in heat management because it doesn’t have a pil, like tr-j19.

I am willing to do any measurements you ask.

Nice…what ya growin’ there?

This is my parents’ house and the plants are watermellons & mellons.
Completely legal.

Damm! Killer light man! Good job! How far is that telephone pole in the 4th pic?

Looks suspicious to me….

GET EM’ BOYS!

:slight_smile: I think this is the first triple mtg2 build I’ve seen… Completed (step up yo game Linus! :stuck_out_tongue: )

Love the gratuitous reflector shot!
